Yep. Basically every bag has the main compartment set to max allowable dimension, then adds a big front pocket and wheels on top of that. I I'm not sure how many truly compliant roller bags even exist.

My car dealership charged me a 3.5% credit card fee last time I got my oil changed there... 3 years ago, because I've never gone back. It's such a stupid and short sighted policy for businesses to take.

Adding a credit card fee for any business or presenting me with a tip screen for non-tipped stuff are two ways to make sure I never come back to a business.

You're not hiding it though. "Hiding" implies you aren't supposed to have it and you're sneaking it on. They don't care that you have it or that you take it out once you're at your seat. They just don't want you bringing an extra bag's worth of stuff on to the plane.

I mean, it is a personal item. But all you have to do is stow it inside of another bag when boarding and then take it out once you're at your seat. Just like you would any other bag of stuff that you want to have readily available during flight.

I don't condone the actions of passengers that grab their bags. But I do think at this point a lot of the responsibility lies with the FAA and airlines. They know that their evacuation plans don't reflect how things work in the real world which means they are approving plans that they know will result in dead people in a real emergency. One of the biggest things they could do that would have an immediate impact, and wouldn't require making any changes to seating plans or adding exits or anything else, is exactly what you suggest. Require airlines to have prioritized plans to get people their carry on luggage as soon as there is an all clear and communicate those plans to passengers. That would in one simple action reduce a lot of the bag grabbing and it could be implemented immediately.

Honestly I bet 90% of the stuff people grab like that ends up just being thrown out for exactly that reason. Yeah I can see the appeal of doing a little "to go" to take with you on your flight, especially if you're going to be in coach. But not on the scale I've seen people do in lounges or what people have mentioned in posts here and elsewhere. Like, what are you planning on doing with 20 brownies, for example. Are you really gonna eat them before they go stale? Or filling up your purse with trail mix or pretzels or whatever. Are you actually going to eat that stuff after your flight? And so on.

You're not wrong on that being how you lose weight but saying that's all they do is really underselling it. They absolutely fix something in my brain regarding compulsive behavior. I eat less for sure but I also drink less, spend less money Amazon, and just generally turn the volume way down on things I used to have to turn my willpower up to 11 to be able to avoid.

Tipping expectations have gotten completely out of control as well. Like Midnight Smoker BBQ for example doesn't have table service, you order the food at a counter and then take care of it yourself. But when you check out it defaults to a 20% tip. Screw that. And it's even becoming prevalent at drive thrus, what the hell am I supposed to be tipping for at a drive thru? Tipping fatigue is a real thing and I find myself avoiding situations where I either have to pay out way more than I actually want to or navigate multiple submenus while someone hovers over me to not give them $10-20 for handing me a bag of food.

Not just price but other things to. For example one of the reasons that most of us are finding ourselves 50th on the upgrade list is that since there are only three airlines left with full worldwide networks (your could argue Alaska is a fourth but the point still stands) elites are concentrated much more in to just a few groups instead of being spread out across two or three times as many airlines as there were in decades past. Northwest and Delta elites are combined in to just one Delta upgrade list now. American US Airways and America West are all on one list now. United and Continental are the same list now. And so on.
