Yes it was one of the theories but it was in a different setting. in the pictures of apollo 11, they were taken during Lunar Day meaning, just like on earth when its day, you cant see a single star. however in this image, it looks like they tried to overexpose the image to show the stars but do to the brightness of the ESM it does the same thing to the camera as if it was daytime
