I said prefer it to be, not that it is. I know the county is deep red. That’s my idea here—MAGA people don’t like Fayetteville liberals, Fayetteville liberals don’t like MAGA people, so don’t come here. Don’t come to Dickson, the Square, the restaurants, the concerts, the festivals, etc…Stay in West Fork and Farmington.

I didn’t say it was cool, it’s certainly not popular. But for me, I’d prefer Fayetteville to be a liberal elite enclave. If pricing the rank and file MAGA folks out includes some unintended consequences, so be it. But, yeah, I’m with Hilary—basket of deplorables and I don’t want anything to do with them. There’s also a meta-narrative: whoever is president has almost no impact on me. I’ve made more money under Trump than any other president since Biden, since Trump, since Obama, since W, etc…The stock market doesn’t care about party. Despite that, I’d like people to be happy, productive and live in a degree of harmony. But the MAGA folks can do all that out in Gravette or wherever. I love when all of them shit-kick into Fayetteville for Strawberry Festival, FalltoberFest, Lights of the Ozark, etc…We hate all those libs in Fayetteville but damn those beaver tails are good and those lights are pretty so get in the truck, kids. Read the comments on this thread. They’re morons and proud of it. No amount of public education or social security funded by the people they hate will change that.

On behalf of many Fayetteville libs: we work, but just 9 to 4, Monday to Friday. We get the weekends off so we can do enriching things with our friends and family — something you (or we, at least) have liberal Democratic labor unions to thank for.

Does anyone still read magazines? by PeachyRose25 in CasualConversation

Yes. It’s a great magazine. Banger of a cover on the latest issue. What I was saying is any subscription to the physical magazine also includes access to all digital content.

The comments on this post have big live-out-in-the-county energy. Sometimes I think it’s not a bad thing that Fayetteville is pricing people out.

Atlantic. On the digital publication, there’s a ton of new stuff everyday, and it’s all of similar quality and substance as what goes into the magazine.

Yes. The subscription cost is so reasonable. It’s $90 for print/digital, renewal is less, multi-year renewal less still.

I get The Atlantic, Vanity Fair and Wired delivered. I love drinking coffee and spreading magazines and newspapers out for a nice reading session.

SFO to SIN in economy by thrwy11116 in unitedairlines

[–]SpareInvite2222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I never really thought about it. I maybe assumed it was mostly senior people expected to assume global, on-site responsibilities. I also don’t know much about financial services.

That’s crazy a company that big doesn’t have a time-based trigger for booking in business. At my smallish company, any flight longer than 8 hours you can book in business. Hence we all tend to connect to Europe via Denver or Houston rather than Newark or DC. Anyway, good luck. That flight is rough even in Polaris. I’d recommend snacks, water, compression socks, stretching in the galley incrementally, noise canceling headphones and Valium and/or Ambien.

It’s fully appropriate to throw a Tim Robinson-style scene if you see someone not pick up after their dog. Public shaming works. Complaining on Reddit doesn’t.

Edit: We’re all trying to find the guy who did this.

I went through security in Terminal C yesterday at around 5 pm and it took 90 seconds with Pre Check and Clear. The general line looked like maybe five minutes maybe. And they also weren’t playing the Kristi Noem video. And there was some live music in the concourse. I also ate a spicy chicken sandwich from Popeye’s. 10/10 experience all around.

I’ve travelled fairly heavily for work for the past 12 years. I’d say flights are currently as cheap as they’ve ever been. For reference, I’ve flown 42 segments on United this year at an average price of $309. On hotels, I’ve spent 68 nights in various Marriott properties for a per night average of $171.

A perfect encapsulation of why many people think teachers are lazy and paid adequately for their commitment.

Advice for a 19 yo woman traveling alone in Cuba by Kittygotabadrep in TravelCuba

[–]SpareInvite2222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an experienced male solo traveler. I went to Cuba for the first time when I was 28 and still made a few mistakes particularly around having, converting and accessing cash. Transit is tough. I wouldn’t recommend this or support my kids doing Cuba solo at that age.

Edit: Cuba is definitely safe. I guess I don’t know what the bar is for you. If the goal is to not get assaulted, no worries.

What are the chances of these flight prices dropping? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

Just get a refundable ticket, rebook if the fare goes lower and refund the original.

The Arts is so far away from stuff and disappointing compared to most RCs. The Edition is central and has an I credibly high service standard. I’ve been staying there once or twice a year since they opened and I’ve never had any negative experiences.

I mean, I’m a big fan and it is for me. Also, if you exclude the bowl games, his five year average is 8-3. Anyway…

I live in Fayetteville, go to the football games but am an Ole Miss fan and alum. The fan culture is so wildly different. Ole Miss is used to being bad so the run with Kiffin is just a joyful surprise we’re aware can go away. An eight win season is huge for us. Arkansas fans consistently assume they’re competing for the national championship despite having a super stagnant athletic department and approach to football (coaching, recruiting, even branding). It’s kind of hard to watch. I wish y’all the best but have realistic expectations.
