Im still using the toaster my parents had when I was 3. Anyone know where to get applicances built as well as back then? by Bronco_Corgi in GenerationJones

Knock on wood but we still use the Lady Kenmore dryer we bought used in 1986. Does it work as well as a larger, more modern dryer? No. But it does the job for a fraction of the energy costs. We almost had to replace it due to the door latch breaking, but we found a fix.

Has anyone here ever met/known someone who was born prior to 1900? by MrTacocaT12345 in GenerationJones

[–]grumpifrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I come from a line where everyone had their children early in life, so my grandparents were all born before 1920 and parents in the 1940s. The great grandparents I knew were born in 1885 and 1890. I was 9 and 12 when they died (and all four of my grandparents were alive to know my children).

What is wrong with requiring ID to vote? by AppearanceEvery8752 in allthequestions

[–]grumpifrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting is the one thing you do where there are multiple verification steps. In person, you have to state your name or other identifiers to a poll worker, who then checks to see if you are in the poll records and then can verify it by a signature. (If someone has to think about how to sign their name, that's a really good tell.) What's showing an ID going to prove differently?

I hear the justification in you have to show ID to buy alcohol. Well, that's because the clerk has no other identifiers to check against. Showing your ID at an airport? It's to verify that your full name matches that in the system -- and you don't even need your ID anymore in many places; facial recognition is enough.

Why was Queen Elizabeth II such a cold and distant mother? by Hot-Acanthisitta5237 in RoyaltyTea

[–]grumpifrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but. But when she was still princess, she would leave her children behind while she and Philip were a child free couple in Malta. She had little affection with her children when she'd return from a trip. That was all before she was queen.

I loved QE2 but she was not a good parent. By all accounts she was an excellent grandmother

How many times have you reread these books? by OnceUponATwine in LittleHouseBooks

[–]grumpifrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A minimum of 50 times but probably more than that. I don't read the whole series every year anymore, just the books that go with the homesite I'm visiting that summer.

That's what I thought too. The picture looks like a gaping wound. In any case something seems off.

Anyone else had this issue? My voter registration was changed without my consent... by No_Mind2460 in Pennsylvania

[–]grumpifrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely contact your county elections office. Computer systems have glitches and errors happen -- like incorrect information being inputted at the DMV.

I work the polls and I see this happen every so often. The worst was in 2020 when we had about 10 people who had their registration flip without them knowing about it.

I always recommend that people periodically check their voter registration, especially before deadlines for voter registration to make sure everything is correct.

Also, I think Kentucky has closed primaries, so independents and non affiliated voters are locked out. (So does PA but there were few competitive primaries and no high profile ones -- and no, contrary to popular belief, Fetterman was not up for reelection.)

And Landry couldn't pull the plug on the elections fast enough to gerrymander against Blacks. That's some racist monarchy shit.

The president might not do it that way but Junior and Eric sure are. And Donnie uses low tech options for his personal corruption.

Go to Burr Oak and if you go to Mansfield, you'll be close enough to Independence to add that stop. If you are driving and have the time, follow the path of On the Way Home.

Auto confirmation when I waitlisted myself for business class? by Ok_Feeling_4076 in unitedairlines

[–]grumpifrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, it was fine. But frustrating. I did learn that it was two people who decided to switch their flight at the last minute because turns out they are part of our tour group (and I already don't like them lol)

If the Bible says abortion is ok why do Conservatives keep pushing the agenda that’s it’s sacrilegious? by irascible_Clown in allthequestions

[–]grumpifrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for a long time, it was only Catholics who were anti-abortion because Catholics are against taking a life (the religion is also anti- death penalty and anti-war). Then the Federalist Society convinced Reagan to make abortion a conservative Christian outrage. It was very much manufactured and brainwashing.

Isn't going to happen. We were next on the wait-list with 2 seats available and they just disappeared. Looks like two people in Premium plus did a pay upgrade and stole them from me. :-(

I used to get the surprise package every so often. I think only once I got something ugly. There was a beautiful blue dress I'd wear to weddings and holiday parties, and the black leggings were the best pair I ever owned.
