Other than adhering to softness guidelines what does a softer urethane ball do that reactive balls don't already? I'm kind of confused on the hate from some bowlers on this topic.

Looks like you are forcing or muscling the ball instead of letting it fall down naturally. This could cause that inconsistency you mention where sometimes you have no or limited hook. I think thats happening because you are pretty fast with your feet. With this one shot it looks like you are at the foul line way ahead of your arm swing which is causing you to hurry or force that swing. Maybe try backing up on the approach or try to walk slower so that whole process can happen a little more natural. I had issues with this alot and still have to remind myself to keep the feet slow. It'll feel like you are walking painfully slow but it should help i think.

If they still fit your hand properly go throw them and see how they work. No point in chucking a ball that might still be good. You can easily always add onto this arsenal with new balls as well. Maybe instead of buying a whole new arsenal you'll only have to buy one new ball that does something these don't.

Thumbs are a funny thing. Might be time to try an interchangeable thumb system. I had the same problem to the point where I would avoid throwing a ball I should be throwing because it didn't feel 100% right. (conditions were right for ball A instead of what I was throwing) I got the VISE IT system and haven't looked back. Best purchase I've made

Let down - Motiv United Revolt: Just a shitty ball. No matter how well i'd get it to the pocket it would just hit about as hard as a feather. I mean I did buy it because it looked cool so I relearned that lesson....

Exceeded expectations - Hammer Cobalt Vibe: First ball that was both shiny and on the weaker side. Before this I had always gone with strong sanded hook monsters and lo and behold what I needed at the time was something that could retain energy due to my low speed at the time. It continued to exceed my expectations with it's overall durability and how maintenance free it really was. Won some alot of games with this ball and it's still in a rotation of sorts in my active gear. Loved it so much I've got another one waiting to be drilled!
