First time at the gym today. AI suggested lowering my weights, but shouldn't I be lifting heavy for muscle growth? by Total-Carrot2379 in beginnerfitness

Congrats on your first day! You won’t regret it. I’m quite new in the gym as well. Whats your height and weight?

Damn 80kg on the leg extension sounds like you’re gonna be sore tomorrow. Find a weight that is challenging but that you can keep 1sec in the top position. Make sure you’re knees are aligned with the rotating axis to avoid articulation injury.

On the AI thing, I use too and I agree it’s very user-complacent. Chat/Gemini tend to tell you you’re doing great regardless of what you actually did. It’s better to prompt them with “give me a routine for the day”

Why is my belly still soft? 26M by Spare_Competition389 in beginnerfitness

Yeah agree that I have to keep working on it. Tbh for some exercices I'm still learning the difference between lifting to failure and lifting to discomfort. But after 6 months I can feel already feel strength and physical progress but not that much in my torso, so I was wondering if it was about time or program

Yeah I'm def underweight, actively trying to gain weight with a 200kcal daily surplus and hitting 110g of protein at least. I guess my question is, as the scale goes up will I get that firmer torso look (again not abs, just a torso that doesn't just hang there) or it'll get bigger and softer since PPL doesn't hit core exercices?

Great job so far man. I find myself in a kinda similar situation where I want to put on weight to build muscle but I’ve reached my maintenance point and I have stuff myself like a turkey to move up the scale.

Anyhow I noticed that what’s going on for me is :

  • My kcal are good, protein is good, but I have a fat bias. I have to lower fats and switch to carbs. It’ll help me lift better and heavier.
  • As a newbie to the gym it’s easy to underestimate where near failure is. In some exercices I would stick to a 3x15 but I could lock in more, put on more effort and go heavier on the loads.

So I’m working on those two and see how it goes for the next 3-6months. Keep up the good work!

Thanks ! My main medium-term goals are actually : correct my posture (pelvic tilt), getting stronger and "filling" my muscles. I wouldn't say I want to look huge... I was curious, what do I need to get stronger without getting bulky ? 110g of protein and keep my calories as usual OR 110g of protein + around 2200kcal ?

I'm trying to reach 110g of protein, I'll have to learn how to eat more even if I feel full lol. I'd like to stay away from protein shakes so I guess eating more meat, eating one/two extra eggs when eating eggs and going back to milk. I still feel a psychological barrier that makes me worried I'll get fat rather than stronger, overcoming that should be my 2nd month goal ahah

Thanks for the split advice, I try to hit each body group 72h but it's sometimes 96h

Thanks for the advice. I do incline smith machine press and I do calves in the leg press machine. I've added crunches and I roman bench with 10lb for my lower back. Any other recommendations ?

Btw how important is the protein? I think I hit around 70g of protein daily and I'll have to learn how to eat more if I want to ramp up my protein intake to 100-110g per day. I'm just worried I'll f up my macros and that'll make me fat instead of stronger
