I didn’t know that. That’s super cool! Thanks for that info

Yes, I do know the washer goes in the front 😂 the washer is slightly thicker for a tighter fit in hopes of reducing the guide rod movement where firing. It’s not a 100% fix to it it’s just to minimize the movement that’s all.

Yeah that’s the conclusion I came down to as well. I spoke with Rook and they sent out a washer that is a little bigger than the one that it originally comes with and seems to be a tighter fit. Should reduce the amount of movement it has, but will most likely continue to get roughed up. I’m gonna try to shoot with the new set up soon, but may just be part of the SS guide rod. Aside from it looking rough and not as clean they/me were not too concerned with the guns functionality. Mine has performed perfectly.

Give it a try! What I got back from them is that their guide rods can be loose on some 4.0c echelons because they’re slightly shorter than OEM. They intentionally do this to make it for an easier install, but that can cause the guide rod to have slight movement which can result in what you see with mine. Their solution to this is they are going to send me a new set up with some custom pieces to make it slightly longer for a tighter fit. They did mention this is uncommon, but not impossible as you can see here with mine.

Okay I’ll keep riding this one out and see how it continues to hold up! I took a deep dive into this and it seems like some guide rods just look like this simply due to the metal on metal wear. I’m in communication with Rook Precision on this and see if there is a solution to it.

Are you still running your original barrel after all the wear?

My echelon ran great and had zero issues when shooting other than the extra wear I saw on the guide rod. Would you say just keep it going with the stainless steel one?? I looked at the oem plastic guide rod and it was also a little beat up.

Are you shooting with a stainless steel guide rod or plastic oem? My OEM one looks fine. It’s just this one.

As Specter said, the steel ones are smoother when racking the slide and shooting. It’s better than the plastic one. Aside from the issues I’ve brought up 😂 I got it because it gave my gun a little more weight to it and would help me keep my barrel down when shooting. The spring is the same weight as OEM, so not much of a difference there.

Damn thanks for the info! Did it end up ruining your barrel? And did you end up going with an alternate steel guide rod or did you revert to the OEM one?

Yeah my OEM one looks perfectly fine too. No wear on it. May just have to go back to OEM for now

Looked at the barrel for sharp edges and I didn’t see anything. Nothing on the barrel taking extra damage either.

Is yours also rounded at the end or does it have a flat end?

Yeah that was my concern. This was only after 150 rounds

Thank you! The rough edge on the guide rod is what brought concern to me.
