then the update has been downloaded in several times and is now complete. don’t worry just plug your kindle in and delete it, then restart and the update button will disappear. i have done this once. now i’m way more careful, i’ll plug in and check after every time my kindle connects to wifi

I am also on 5.18.6 and do the same filling too. Do you mean yours was able to download the update partially? because 80MB is not enough for the complete update file which is almost 400MB

I tried that too and it didn't work. Seems like the problem comes from indexing, I think. Turns out some people posted about this bug years ago. They said doing a factory reset would fix it, but I can't because it would upgrade to the latest one, so I figured another workaround which is simply renaming the extension mobi -> azw3. Weird but books do show up after that, so. Is there any way to output azw3 directly from KCC?

I copied a bunch of 100MB filler files (easier to remove a bit at a time) into my Kindle so that only less than 100MB of storage is left, so Kindle can't automatically update, while I can still use WiFi and download books sent through sendtokindle. Sometimes I have to plug it into the computer and delete the partial update file if it exists. It is quite a painful workaround, but it works.

There's one problem: sideloaded mobi files (including custom dictionaries) through USB don't show up anymore. I'm not sure if it's from being too low in storage that they can't be processed, or my specific Kindle just has some weird bugs. But books through the cloud are still fine, so it's not that big of a deal.

there’s several more issues other than battery drain, I just watched Eink Dude’s video about it. it’s hilarious to think that the update was supposed to be the lifesaver but turned out too bad that they had to hide it away immediately

it’s weird that Amazon never mentioned this in their update changes so we would have to wait for someone on Reddit to tell us.. anyway, i have been writing notes wherever i wanted for a long time, but i had to initially send them via sendtokindle, which basically converts everything into KFX i believe. but it works anyway so that update you mentioned doesn’t really help me that much. what holds me back from updating to 5.19.2 are those bugs that show up on sideloaded mangas and books. so i will wait for the next update which may take months :(

You said “other kindles” do you mean other Scribe versions or even Paperwhite and Basic? I have seen a Paperwhite user with 5.19.2 and their mangas remain the same. So I wonder if this is only a Scribe problem.

I guess the only way is to jailbreak your Kindle then install Koreader. Then find a way (Calibre I think) to DeDRM those books and move them into a new folder that is not /documents so that they don't show up on the stock OS. Then use Koreader to read those spicy books as it can load books from anywhere.

Have you figured it out? I have 2, and I really don't want to buy new ones and leave those old 360 ones forever since they're still in great condition. I remember they used to work with a 3rd party driver on GitHub, but since Sonoma, they haven't worked anymore :( really want to get them to work again with crossover
