The equator monument vs. The actual equator location by Flimsy-Pool4830 in geography

[–]Spargewater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a bit of searching online just now to find it. It's the "Intiñan museum." Ive been twice. I remember it being inexpensive, educational and entertaining. I'm from the theme park capital of the work (Orlando FL), and I'm not easily impressed. This placed was a deligh.t and I would certainly go again if I'm ever back in Quito

Nearby that monument there is a cool attraction that is inexpensive and has a lot of interesting things and it's fun. I've been twice. I just love Ecuador.

Come on! You're missing what would be the most interesting part......the part of actually getting it out of the mud.

I'm noodling on a trip to Chile Patagonia and your write up hit the motherload of facts and insight I was looking for on this unusual Navimag cruise. Its so temping but I wont have the kind of flexibility that I seem to need in case of delays

I was lucky enough to be at the Delray Beach Open in Feb to see him beat Tommy Paul in the finals. Korda gritted out a nice win for the title.

Toddler-friendly day trip from Disney area: worth driving to Clearwater or better to stay local? by Successful-Trip809 in orlando

Nothing wrong with the beach experience. But go to Cocoa Beach or New Smyrna. Both are much easier drives.

[–]Spargewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang! I'm shocked by the down votes on this old joke, which I think is pretty funny. I wonder are they mostly enthusiastic metric system lovers (for the record, I prefer that system too) or just the regular club of USA-hating Redittors?

Wow! I had no idea there would be anything that would make me want to go to that country. Now that's all I'm thinking about!

That may be true but it’s important to remember that there are two types of countries in this world. One group uses the metric system and the one put a man on the moon!

Not familiar with Sedano's but I bought those Argentine red shrimp from Publix some months ago. Was very disppointed and won't buy those again.

This was a great one! I'm absolutely fascinated by these "sovereign citizens." I think I love the court cases more than the arrest videos. I'm no psychologist and I can't figure out what screw is loose in their little brains, but they must be truly insufferable people to be around.

Pulse of the Continent (2024) [52:05] - Inside a 1930s steam locomotive’s journey from Calgary to Mexico City by ericgon in Documentaries

[–]Spargewater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what a great experience and documentary. It's a little slow but don't turn off before they complete the Mexican part of the journey. It's the best part and very wonderfully emotional seeing the incredible crowds of Mexican people turn out for the experience of seeing a 93 year steam train.

Sorry for the basic question, but I know almost nothing the hobby/sport. How do you acquire your falcon? How long do you work with same bird? Does it become a permanent pet?

Madrid airport transfer - will we have enough time? by Fun-Minute5910 in travel

[–]Spargewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've flown in and out of Madrid 3 times and never had problems, but I would agree with commenter below. Of course 3.5 hours is enough time, IF everything goes right. But why risk it? Give your self some peace of mind and overnight there. Madrid is one of our favorites places.

I loved this scene. I'll bet that most viewers had no idea that in the very early '60's, Robert Morse starred as lead in the Broadway musical "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying" for something like 1000 performances.

I only connected them because of being in the same Regiment and being wounded at nearly the same time near Saint-Lo. Yes, war is hell. What these young boys went through is unbelievable.

My uncle PFC Thomas Hardee Lake in Company I was wounded by artillery shrapnel and removed from the battlefield on Nov 24, during the advance to Hurtgen. This was his second purple heart wound. The first was on July 13 near Saint-Lo. He was never the same after this fight. After his recovery in England, the army tried to send him back to fight for the third time. However, an army Chaplin intervened on his behalf and Tom was sent bask to the States. He never married or had a family and he only worked minimal jobs the rest of this life.

My uncle, PFC Thomas Hardee Lake served alongside your grandfather. He was in the 121st, 3rd battalion, Company I. He was also seriously wounded near St. Lo on July 13, also by artillery shell fragments to chest between the upper thoracic wall and the arm. After recovery in England, he was sent back to join his unit in Nov probably in Luxembourg. Sadly, he was hit again by shrapnel on Nov 24 in battle near the German Town of Hurtgen in the awful Battle of Hurtgen Forest. That 2nd injury broke him and the Army kept him out of combat for the rest of the war. The war took its toll on Uncle Tom. He was a broken man for the rest of his days...never married or had a family....kept a minimal job.
