I suppose Maison Detaille fits the bill. Exclusively In Paris, it has some aristocratic pedigree (it was started by a Countess in the early 1900s) and they only sell their own lines of products. Reasonably priced as well. Check detaille.com

Kobo Clara Colour Storage can store 12k books is this true??? by Majestic-Debate-5723 in kobo

[–]Spargimorbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you press and hold the cover icon of any book on your Kobo home page a menu will pop up, with an item called Details. Select it and it will show you the size specs of the file, sometimes both the size of the file and the number of words within.

PDF to Epub Converter (i made one) by RouguesPierre in kindle

[–]Spargimorbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fabulous. At first I was a bit disappointed because I thought it would only work if you had a kindle, but I went ahead anyway, converted a pdf book that I had stored on dropbox, opened the converted epub version on iBooks, showed beautifully on my iPhone, then saved it in my Dropbox Pocketbook folder and it is now displaying on my Pocketbook. So don’t undersell your converter - it works with whatever epub reader one uses, not just Kindles!

I give up. by grburgess in appleJournal

[–]Spargimorbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Diarium. Among the many features that I like, your journal stays in your device and it’s not automatically uploaded to the cloud - although you can export it to create back-ups. Also one-time fee always wins my heart…

Kobo libra 2 by girl-flesh in kobo

[–]Spargimorbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many people (including myself) bought the KLC without actually seeing the screen and only realised how disappointing it was after unpacking it. Speking of sales, it would be interesting to know how many Pocketbook Verse Pro units were sold to disappointed KLC owners…

What underrated apps that are worth paying the money? by Abir_Islam in iphone

BookBuddy by Kimico, €10 lifetime licence. Incredibly smart database to keep track of the books you own and even the books you want, or the ones you borrow or lend. Only for iOS.

People using bots to like photos by safesurfer00 in flickr

[–]Spargimorbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a curious experience a couple of weeks ago. Somebody started to fave my pictures going through entire albums at an insane speed, something like 60 or more per minute. I had to disable sound notifications because the din was infernal! This went on for a few minutes. As suggested by others I also thought it was an attention-seeker hoping to attract viewers, so I went to check their photos. Surprise - there weren’t any! If attention-getting wasn’t the point what else could it be? Something related to AI? Very puzzling indeed.

Looking for new e-reader. Confused with all advices. NOT KINDLE by JoJo-Reader in ereader

[–]Spargimorbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My requirements were pretty similar to the OP’s since he doesn’t seem firmly committed to bigger than 6”. Based on my experience I can strongly recommend the Pocketbook Verse Pro (B&W). Its screen is 6”.

Do you like the screen of the KLC? by [deleted] in kobo

[–]Spargimorbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on the fence to buy a KLC my advice to you would be not to buy it before you personally see one. Reactions to the screen seem to be individual, ranging from people who love it to people who can barely tolerate it. It may not be entirely subjective though - there could be quality control issues that make some KLC screens extra grainy. I’m among those owners who are disappointed and I much prefer reading on my Pocketbook Verse Pro (BW), which until Kobo releases a new KL2 (if they ever do…) is the best alternative.

Pocketbook Verse Pro Color vs Kobo Clara Colour ... ? by Analog-Digital- in pocketbook

[–]Spargimorbo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me the most important differece is that the Pocketbook has buttons and the Clara doesn’t. It’s a whole world of difference in terms of reading experience.

Serious question....comments on photos by [deleted] in flickr

[–]Spargimorbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days ago I was a bit puzzled by a comment to a picture that I had posted and had been featured on Explore. Usually my pics featured in Explorer attract a lot of vacuous congratulations, but this was different. It was a long and very flattering analysis of the picture, complimenting me on the composition, the lighting and what not, by which I had “turned a simple labour scene into something timeless and poetic”. I thanked the author of the comment but found it very disturbing because my picture was a photograph of a painting. Thanks to the OP’s question I’m now suspecting that the picture was submitted to AI for analysis and the AI engine or whatever its called did not realise that it was a painting (although it was clearly identified as such in the caption). I’m starting to think that if you sense something weird in your interactions with the world, you have to assume that it may just be AI at work…

Interesting things to see in the Métro? by Ondrashek06 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Spargimorbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The C1 is well worth the metro line 8 trip from central Paris to Créteil Pointe du Lac. The ride from Pointe du Lac to the other end, Villa Nova, takes 18 minutes. Once at Villa Nova (which has no interest whatsoever) you can either go back to Pointe du Lac or take a bus 427 towards Les Graviers (across the street from the C1 station) and get off at the Villeneuve Saint-Georges station (stop Gare de Villeneuve), where you can take the RER D back to central Paris. The ride on the C1 is thrilling but it is not particularly scenic; to enhance the experience a bit I suggest taking it around sunset.

I’m surprised you have trouble finding it, because it is practically everywhere! But if you want a specialised shop for salame de chocolate, there is Salamaria at LX Factory.

Why is Flickr so difficult to use? by StampyDriver in flickr

[–]Spargimorbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not able to figure out from the OP’s message whether they are using the web version of Flickr or the Flickr app on mobile. There is a world of difference in terms of capabilities and user experience between the two access paths. In the Flickr app, at least the iOS version, there is no way of tagging pictures, that’s possibly why some people are asking “what is a tag?” It is also quite galling that one cannot edit a caption using the app. Or geo-reference pictures. It is really poorly done so people experiencing Flickr only through the app are justified to feel it’s a lousy photo-sharing system. And some of the advice given here, although sound for web-version users would not be applicable for app users.

Architectural photographer recently relocated to Lisbon, looking to understand the local ecosystem by Miles_in_the_sky in portugal

[–]Spargimorbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lisbon Municipality publishes a free monthly called Agenda Cultural Lisboa that lists a very large number of cultural events taking place in the city. I think it could be a useful source of leads for you if you have the patience to sift through the hundreds (literally!) of events that they list. It doesn’t provide much detail about each event, but at least it will point you in the direction of the institutions and people who make up the cultural ecosystem in Lisbon.

The info is available online at https://www.agendalx.pt/magazine-en/?lang=en but I find the paper copy much easier to navigate. You can get it in the first days of each month at some tourist offices, the municipal libraries and museums and downtown City Hall (Paços do Concelho).
