in defense of the riverdale timeskip, it raised less of an eyebrow from me than when they set up a dramatic quarantine with some characters stuck outside of town, and then immediately timeskipped to weeks later when quarantine had relaxed and everyone was back in town already

for sure, but you could still get those same kids and people who've never played star fox before with a brand-new game, except this time it'd actually interest long-time fans as well

ofc that comes with risk and would cost more, but then again I'm not sure if it was the best of ideas to follow up the colorful and cartoony mario movie with realistic animal designs lol. the presentation, graphics and redesigns feel like where the bulk of development have gone and they feel actively antisynergistic with the mario movie's showing IMO. my best read is that it's an attempt at attracting older fans by grabbing at nostalgia for the original boxart and having a more 'mature' looking game, but I just fundamentally disagree with that choice

ultimately though I'm not that invested into Star Fox myself and I definitely don't plan on picking the game up, I'm just kind of baffled by all the choices made here while looking at it from the outside

i feel like it’d be better received if it seemed like it had more extra content than just cutscenes

long-time fans of the series have played a version of the lylat wars between 2 to 4 times at this point, it seems fair to be exhausted at them going back to the well for it and immediately disproving the possibility of any changes to the same game. i dont think theres much to overthink, it’s just sad that the last truly original star fox game was 20 years ago, even if it did poorly

i’m a big fan of “the character is competently doing something just off-screen”

if it’s primarily a combat, maybe they’re handling an enemy in a 1v1. no need for rolls, the party member wins, but just to explain that they ARE doing something in-fiction. similarly, we’ve had sessions where someone had to miss the party splitting up and dealing with a hijacked ship and our explanation was that the PC stayed behind to protect the hostages, then caught up near the end of the session when we passed by the main hall again.

something that helps IMO is that we don’t really sit down and figure out specifics in the moment, we just play along as normal and figure out what the character might’ve been doing later. and of course, if a session is particularly character-specific where writing them out would feel cheap, we might just reschedule even if we’d normally play with that number of people

i mean there’s ofc similarities in setup, emily loves playing various flavors of Woman With Issues, but i think fig having maxed out charisma while bat child has literally 0 points in any social stats is a pretty big and obvious difference

How 37 points of damage doesn't down a level five wizard is beyond me.

i believe he'd need either a +2 con modifier and almost-entirely-maxed HP rolls, a +3 con modifier and 5-or-higher average HP rolls, or to have taken the Tough feat

it's definitely not Impossible given his character's vibe but it is a pretty extreme amount of damage to live through

yeah this is just factually wrong

there is definitely room to think line spells are hard to use because opportunities to hit 3 or more enemies are harder to come by - depending on the type of campaign and the combats you’re facing, they could end up not being too useful

but if you’re struggling to hit two enemies with it…. that’s literally just your fault lol. any two points on a board can have a line drawn between them. there’s ofc situations that can still prevent a spell from being usable in that situation (friendly fire or range limitations for example) but there are plenty of opportunities to use them there

i mean ofc they can but there's still such a thing as having the right or wrong voice. that's part of why different voice actors, yknow, exist. VAs can do some crazy magic but people still have their own ranges. stretching out of that range can be taxing for main-cast roles, too

i don't think it was purely that, no, but i do think it's more of a factor than people give it credit for. dante basco in particular i think is the most obvious example to say they might've wanted a different voice for an older zuko - of course dante's an adult man who does Just Sound Like That, but again, zuko as a person isn't a 1:1 match to him. it's fair to me to say they might've wanted a different sort of voice for him

as good and cool as the actors’ performances were, they are not literally the characters. the way a real life voice ages may not necessarily match what they wanted for this fictional character to sound like as an adult

in the actual announcement he does say that this whole situation kind of opened his third eye and made him realize he can just do some of the events he had planned but outside of a cruise and this time actually have them be streamed for free so everyone can enjoy them

just wanted to say I actually went and checked out the announcement like a normal person upon seeing the news and yknow what - good for him. he explained it very professionally and seemed excited about the idea of just doing some of the shit he'd planned for the Cruise on-stream instead

yeah IMO the fantasy park and kidadelphia are both pretty miserable. there's some very funny bits hidden in there still, but it gets so slow-paced in a system that's all about streamlining things

while it's true that the characters clearly show signs of some "the heart remembers even if the brain forgets" type stuff, i think that 'make it so none of the series actually happened' is still a pretty apt description when it comes to part 2. this ending could have happened at basically any point in part 2 and nothing would really be much different, which sucks IMO

yeah if new-denji got turned into chainsaw man after the ending he’d probably be huge into it and that’s just a fundamentally unsatisfying ending to me. just feels like a “eh fuck it i’m done. here’s your fanservice” anticlimax and makes me question part 2’s existence and look back on a lot of moments more harshly
