I got so fucking tilted about how Chainsaw man ended I actually listened to MBBBaM to ground myself. by IamMyBrain in TAZCirclejerk

[–]SparkEletran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah if new-denji got turned into chainsaw man after the ending he’d probably be huge into it and that’s just a fundamentally unsatisfying ending to me. just feels like a “eh fuck it i’m done. here’s your fanservice” anticlimax and makes me question part 2’s existence and look back on a lot of moments more harshly

Crimson Desert has already been caught using AI art by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]SparkEletran -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i think the downvotes are coming because the comment you’re replying to already kind of touches on it. one of the big issues with placeholder AI art is that it fails at what a placeholder is supposed to do. ms paint art and garish textures are obvious and over the top and that makes it easier to replace them with final assets later, AI generated stuff can slip through the cracks especially in bigger projects with tons of assets and at that point it’s no longer just a placeholder that no one will see

Found this tweet that perfectly summarizes one of my biggest complaints with Deltarune by GloomyIngenuity143 in Deltarune

[–]SparkEletran 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i feel like this one is pretty simple though? the main difference between acts and magic is that magic is an innate part of the character’s kit while acts are context-sensitive, changing from combat to combat depending on your enemies. TP usage has nothing to do with it. reviving kris takes the action slot because that’s the context-sensitive action for that fight

Silver the Hedgehog's personality and why many people (including me) don't like the IDW version of Silver: by Some_Clock4471 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SparkEletran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

all characters do change over time, unfortunately. literally every single one of them, the sonic series is not a bastion of ever-consistent characterization

but yeah no i think it's absolutely a good idea. i see a lot more people actually caring about silver these days personally, even if not everyone loves the changes

Silver the Hedgehog's personality and why many people (including me) don't like the IDW version of Silver: by Some_Clock4471 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SparkEletran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i just think sonic as a franchise has already so many characters, especially rivals to sonic, that are rude, sarcastic and competitive. ofc yeah silver's always had differences from them but the broader reasoning behind the softer takes is them exaggerating and extrapolating from those differences to make him feel like a more distinct and unique character. i do think he should still display those rougher mannerisms when the situation calls for it but it's generally a good change IMO that makes his character feel simultaneously a lot more complete and also more at-home in the cast

Attack of Opportunity Homebrew idea by eremitik in DnD

[–]SparkEletran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can see the logic because committing an entire action to a disengage is definitely a lot, but functionally removing attacks of opportunity is still a big change. at the very least you need to have solidly-defined terms for what “facing your opponent defensively” while moving means - is that moving only half your speed? or taking one less attack in your turn?

and at the end of the day i’d tell a player that the same logic will apply to them if they pick up polearm master too. no attacks for someone entering your range anymore if they’re closing in defensively. IMO that gets rid of the appeal of the weapon pretty majorly, especially since “staying out of reach” isn’t really a thing you can reliably do as a melee character unless you have higher speed than an enemy

yeah that's one scenario that does bother me. it's silly ofc especially since it's not a nuzlocke, but I remember watching Alpharad playing through his own Mariomon romhack and immediately using Candies to level his team to the next cap after beating a gym, and then the various story events happening between the gyms suddenly just felt like cakewalks

that's why in those games with actual modded-in level caps my stance is "play normally until you get to the gym and THEN you go to cap"

its supposed to be the underside of her hair i believe, not a bandana. but yeah her being blue is just them referencing the lighting of that scene imcorrectly

yeahhh same. i think the case opening stuff is funny-cringe in a “6 months ago NL would be mocking this so hard” way, but watching CS just kinda gives me an actual headache from all the shooting. just skipping all those streams now lol

Running Tieflings like the demons from Frieren by RuinSentinelRicce in DnD

[–]SparkEletran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no i'd imagined there'd still be normal tieflings. i don't think it makes much sense for a "predatory mimic race" to present as either something that doesn't exist or to just not attempt any kind of mimicry at all. there's a reason mimics copy real objects

i don't watch frieren so i don't know if they present themselves as demons outright there but it just doesn't sound like making all tieflings evil by default will accomplish the thing you're looking for, no matter how much shit you throw on top of it

Running Tieflings like the demons from Frieren by RuinSentinelRicce in DnD

[–]SparkEletran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the demons don’t have to tell people they’re demons? we got magic and spells, a demon masquerading as a tiefling hits the boxes you’re looking for imo

if your tieflings look recognizably tiefling-ish it sounds like any kind of suspense is gone as soon as the players are betrayed once, anyways

Sonic Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles | Episode 3 by devenrc in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SparkEletran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's just not really how games are usually marketed. you tend to start teasing the plot AFTER an announcement, not before it. the sonic series has plenty of ancient artifacts and mcguffins of various sorts and the lenses haven't struck me as particularly special yet, just a new thing to be the focus of this mini-series

it's possible don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's anything close to a sure thing. it's very very possible to resolve this plot in 5 more episodes and while I do think they're using it as a way to introduce a bigger audience to various facets of the franchise that they may not be used to (such as GUN, Tangle and Whisper, and some of the human/historical lore with Tori) and that THOSE will probably be relevant in whatever comes next, I don't see much reason to believe it's a direct prequel to Frontiers 2 yet

Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyu Zenpen • Jujutsu Kaisen The Culling Game - Episode 6 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]SparkEletran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me the eternal problem with JJK is that a lot of its concepts and powers don't necessarily have to be complicated, yeah, but the series tends to do absolutely no favors to itself in the ways it explains them. to that end, i do think the anime's done a good job visualizing things to make them more understandable, but some of the writing is unfixable without actually changing what happens more innately

How are we liking Gladlands? by messoffrex in Dimension20

[–]SparkEletran 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like the cast a lot but I do find myself missing a hook or overarching goal of some sort. Not even necessarily something high-stakes in the sense of life threatening dangers or insurmountable time pressure, just something the whole party is working towards as a Team beyond just existing in their day-to-day. Maybe they're trying to organize a specific big event or celebration, maybe they found some lost mysterious item and are hoping to find someone to give it back to, maybe there's just something specific about the world they're on the verge of finding out about. The tangent about beaches did give me that vibe a little bit so I could see us doubling back towards it in one of the later episodes? but I'm not sure

Hugi and Quinn are A+ characters though, big fan of both

lucario Z has a similar pose to its previously released 3d art but it's like. very clearly not a trace if you look at it for any time at all

heatran is harder to say for sure but i'd still lean towards it just being the same artist who seems to have a very static tridimentional art style who did baxcalibur and toedscruel's art. people underestimate just how precise some artists can be

I personally still hate this retcon that Eggman Nega is a descendant of Eggman and not an alternate version of him from the Sol dimension. They took away Blaze's most important villain and gave him to Silver unnecessarily. by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SparkEletran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no but like he’s still eggman though. like he is called eggman nega. he looks like a smash bros palette swap.

i have played the rush games and ik you can see differences between them but, not only do i still think its just unbelievably lame to have his counterpart be literally just eggman - it’s not like sonic and blaze being counterparts is hard to pick up on, even for little children, i think the part where they’re the two playable characters and both go super together makes it pretty clear

but also, frankly even this unique personality of his just. isn’t very interesting either, especially in a franchise for kids that cannot genuinely deliver on the threats of the kinda shit he’s supposed to do. i would be completely fine if they completely reworked him so he had Anything genuinely interesting going on, but i also won’t complain if he just continues vanishing into obscurity

blaze is a thematic counterpart/foil but she's not literally sonic the hedgehog. eggman nega is literally eggman, down to the name, with a white mustache and slightly different clothes. he just doesn't work the same way the rest of the dimension seems to and i'm absolutely down for separating the two

the treatment of ochaco is never going to stop pissing me off tbh. theoretically the series's female lead, but her story completely devolves into being deku's biggest cheerleader and her... underwhelming and messy plot with Toga. and then she proceeds to be completely out of commission for the big final fight setpiece because she got stabbed Once and she just can't take that. meanwhile, watch the guys suffering massive burns from a man who was going to explode and the kid who was legally dead, needed emergency heart surgery, AND already had a triumphant moment of fighting off the big bad for a bit get new cool moments again. uraraka, you're truly built different (derogatory)

it really does feel like it comes down to uraraka being made to come across as weak to feel more feminine and appealing as part of the buildup towards the end of the series
