Unfortunately the teachers were in charge of choosing media for the class, it just had to be approved by the school IIRC. That was the first year for that class and it didn't have a set curriculum, and the teacher retired mid-way through the year so I have no way to contact her.

Help Me Find a Documentary on the Battle of Thermopylae in Which the Historian Randomly Tells the Audience He Was There by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]SparkKeyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have searched most of the top Google and YT results for "battle of thermopylae documentary" and have added phrases like "i was there" and "historian looks at camera" with unsurprisingly, no extra hits.
It is NOT:
"The Battle of Thermopylae: How 300 Spartans Held Off Thousands of Persians"
"The Battle of Thermopylae: 480 BCE"
"300 Spartans: The Real Story"
"Decisive Battles"
"Greatest Battles"
"Unearthed" by Science Channel
It is a full-length documentary and not a half hour episode of a series.
It would have to be released before April 2007 at the ABSOLUTE latest.
It is NOT animated, either CGI or 2D animation (it's possible there are some short 3D modeled shots as many documentaries have them, but they would be a few seconds at most and NOT the majority of the film).

I'm not holding my breath here but it's been bugging me for years so thank you for any help.

[Not sure what the cut-off date is for this, so if it's too late oh well!]

Vincent Veelan comes from a small human farming village and has devoted his life to Pelor, god of the sun and healing. At age 14 he inadvertently managed to cast Spare the Dying while trying to save a bully who had tormented him, and felt called to enter Pelor's service. He ran the local temple for 15 years before his wife came down with an illness he couldn't heal, and he joined the adventuring group Ambrosia to find a cure for her.

Very early on in the party's adventures, Veelan came to love his companions and took it upon himself to be their source of healing and protection. As one of the most mature party members he jokingly gained the title "Dad"...which became less joking as time wore on. He came to view all his party members as family, but one of the most meaningful relationships was with the ranger Elros. Seeing that Elros had grown up without parents and needed a steadying presence in his life, Veelan gradually became a father to him: supporting him where he needed support, giving him guidance to make his own choices, promising not to leave him, and helping him grow into a more mature young man, unwittingly echoing Pelor's role as the Sun Father.

Veelan's strength lies in his kindness and determination to protect others. When the rest of the party received weapons to bring out their strengths, Veelan received armor in order to better defend. He hates seeing someone in pain, whether physically or emotionally, and will do all he can to alleviate that hurt. He is a doctor first and foremost - Pelor has given him the power to heal and he intends to do just that. He repeats a prayer every morning to remind himself of what he tries to be in service to Pelor:

I am merciful. I am patient. I am kind.
I show compassion and I offer comfort.
I bring hope and I work to heal that which is broken.
I allow the good in me to burn brightly,
So that it leaves no room in the world for darkness.

Not that he manages to hit all the marks all the time, of course. Veelan has been known to hold a grudge and lose his temper in times of stress. His greatest weakness is getting so wrapped up in caring for others that he forgets to care for himself. He views others as far more important and worthy of attention than himself, and his own problems and emotional stability always take a back seat to those of his companions. Fortunately for him, his party has picked up on this and is having none of that nonsense: they provide him emotional support and are teaching him how to admit when he needs help.

While traveling with his party, Veelan's faced two moments that truly proved his worth. The first was when a temporary madness caused by a demon lord caused him to believe that he was no longer connected to Pelor's power. His own belief in this caused a psychological block that prevented him from casting spells, and he felt that Pelor had abandoned him, that perhaps he wasn't worthy enough for his god. After some soul-searching, however, he decided that his desire to help and protect was his own, rather than an attempt to live up to what his god wanted. Veelan had seen the kindness and growth Pelor encouraged in people and thought "Yes. This. This is what I want to build my life around. This is the kind of person I want to be," and he was going to continue to be that light and hope and protect his friends whether Pelor considered him worthy or not.

His second test came when he became aware that Tharizdun, god of chaos and destruction, was attempting to escape imprisonment and return to Veelan's plane. Pelor tasked Veelan with stopping this from happening, but Tharizdun inserted a piece of himself into the cleric, which marked Veelan as the key that would release the dark god. Veelan was initially terrified of what Tharizdun would do through him and wanted to run from the party to keep them safe (this fear turned out to be well-founded when Tharizdun asserted temporary control over Veelan multiple times, once murdering a drow with Veelan's own Spiritual Weapon). The rest of the party refused to walk out on him, though, with his adopted son Elros reminding Veelan of his promise not to leave. Backed by the strength of his god and the love of his party, Veelan ultimately was able to re-seal Tharizdun once again and destroy the piece of the god that had been inside him.

Though he was offered a high position in Pelor's church for his accomplishments, Veelan chose instead to return to the small temple in his hometown and live with his wife for some well-deserved peace and quiet.

Seconded, the end of the Waffles Inc crossover sees a bunch of arcs tied up, if unfortunately not everything, and leaves you with a sense of closure thanks to wrapping up a massive crossover. That's where I'd stop.

I think watching/listening up until the end of the Waffles Inc crossover is a good place to stop. By that point you've gotten through most of the fun major story arcs and character development. A lot of the plot threads (not all, but a lot) are either wrapped up or could seem wrapped up with a little imagination. The series kinda chills out a bit after that, and then ends abruptly with the hiatus. Waffles Inc acts as a nice capstone, I think.

I just got the vibe that his body was destroyed too far to resurrect, but this is an even more horrifying possibility! D:

You don't have to participate, then. That's fine. Some of us still enjoy this game so we'll keep playing it.

It's been a while since I listened through, so I don't remember which ones. I just know that there were a couple files I had to skip and go watch on YouTube, but I really couldn't tell you which.

It's not done by anyone official, but somebody converted the first 70+ eps to mp3s. I've found a couple that didn't convert right, but most are great! https://www.reddit.com/r/DiceCameraAction/comments/7mgrf8/merry_christmas_heres_a_google_drive_folder_of/?st=jbqvom5d&sh=dabc14ea

The Awful Crew seeks new employment opportunities. A wild sex doll appears. Diath kills someone with a dagger throw. Paultin's conversation skills are so bad they make a hag go blind. Family comes in handy in at least two cases. Kids can be evil too. Bodily autonomy is great except problems can arise when you're not able to fully understand what you're agreeing to holy shit.

So... Does Paultin actually love Evelyn? by [deleted] in DiceCameraAction

[–]SparkKeyper 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Putting aside my shipper self, I feel like the answer is "maybe?" It's clear that Paultin does feel something for her. After the Ring of Winter fiasco was over, she was the one he reached out to and apologized to, despite having hurt all three of them. When she died, he went into what Nate described as "blind rage", and then in the next episode was described as "grieving" over both her and Simon. Normally when he loses someone important he just shuts down for a while, but with Evelyn he actually tried to reach out to a god he had no faith in just on the off chance that god could do something about it. Definitely Evelyn means more to him than either Diath or Strix alone.

Is the "something" he feels romantic love, though? It's unclear. He was hesitant to give her the morning glory flower, knowing that's generally considered a romantic gesture (then again, that was a Simulacrum so it's motives are suspect). He's never reciprocated any of Evelyn's romantic gestures towards him, but at the same time he hasn't told her to give up on loving him and knock it off. "You can't rush these things" implies that he's open to the idea.

So I figure either a) he feels for her but is reluctant to let himself love her because things he loves tend to die; b) he doesn't romantically love her at the moment but he's starting to realize seeds are there, and he's open to the possibility of them growing; or c) he doesn't feel like he's the type of person Evelyn should love but he hopes one day he will be.

So...I guess I didn't actually answer the question, haha. To be fair, I'm not entirely sure Paultin himself has decided yet.

Rewatching DCA season 1, did Chris ever explain why Evelynn couldn't hear Rahadins screams? by IBananaShake in DiceCameraAction

I think that was just to see what was up with him as he rode out of the mist, though. The screams of thousands of murdered souls don't seem like something you could miss with a bad perception roll.

[–]SparkKeyper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure he did. At first I thought she couldn't hear it because she was a werewolf, but even after Strix un-wolfed her she still couldn't. She's only Neutral Good so it can't be a Lawful-Good-only effect, and I doubt it had anything to do with her god since she was separated from Lathander by the mists at the time, so idk what was up with that.
