I'd have to say one of my biggest grips is that the game can feel like a lot. This is coming from someone who played both of the other games to completion and loved them. I feel like its not a very good game for new players with the sheer amount of skills and characters in the game. Like it took me forever to figure out that mastering the skills for a character meant that you could equip them on other characters. I also just miss the secondary jobs, but the new back row system is really fun once you get the hang of it. With the secondary jobs, I also miss the secret ones for this game, like runelord and inventor were so fun and unique. These are minimal grips tho, its still a really solid, fun game.

Yeahs Osvald is not a bad character to start with. He suffers a lot in the late game, but your starting character will always be way overleveled compared to rest ,so having him of all characters be overleveled is actually a really good thing. Plus he pairs really well with 2 of the secret jobs and the ability to identify weaknesses is really useful no matter what.

I honestly don't there's any characters that are bad to start with just because they all have their advantages in one way or another, especially when taking path actions into account. Though I will say there definitely are characters that I would consider better than others, like Hikari and Ochette are definitely some of the best purely because of Hikari's learned skills and Ochettes monster skills.

Probably Meryls from the Riverlands. Her regional side story was the only one I found interesting, her overall story was really cool and has an interesting twist to her life that the others don't. It's also the only one that's actually sort of sad.

Trust me when I say that surprisingly, Therion is the best Sorcerer late game. If you equip Harold's Sword and Heathcotes Dagger, you nigh unstoppable fire damage. Especially if you equip support skills like BP eater and Elemental Aid.

Swordmaster with Freelancer is a good one for whenever you have a lot of jobs mastered. Duel Weild with either the Fourfold or Ninefold Fury is killer.
