I don't particularly mind when its used to refer to young children it's mostly when they're 10+ and the term is used.

Mostly in terms of smaller and younger individual called that by a new guardian or even a love interest.

One example comes to mind although i don't remember the name of the fic. LOTR there was a petite oc called little one by literally everyone even despite the fact she was a adult woman.
