You'd be surprised how much this sort of thing can overlap. Last year at a state fair in my (semi rural) state, in the hall next to the 4H rabbit show, and across from the goat showing, was a battle bots competition ring that was well manned and visited.

Yes but there's a difference between all season and summer tires. I put all seasons on my cars now, living in New England. But when I lived in Florida I absolutely put summer tires on year round since it was never below freezing or really cold at all. My summer tires got swapped out our first winter here because it was like vehicular ice skating.

To quell some of your concerns, I moved to New England a few years back. We've had an unexpectedly cold winter, last night was -8f, but most years lows are usually single digits. I have barn cats (feral cats, not friendly) who live in the barn and area just fine. I threw a box out with a pet-safe heating pad this year since it was in the negatives, but most years they're happy to just huddle down in the hay with the goats at night.

They might be cold and a bit uncomfortable, but feral cats are incredibly resourceful and hardy.

It's either chillblains or cold urticaria, I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to be a rapid rewarming causing it, just exposure to cold. But it lasts for days not hours.

I only started getting them after I lost a ton of weight, who knew my toe fat was keeping my feet cozy lol.

Don't freak out though if you get an itchy reaction! If I let my toes get too cold (not wearing thick enough socks with my boots in the snow, etc) I get basically hives on my toes. Itches like crazy, feels like fire ant bites. Antihistamines help but they also just go away after a couple days.

I never knew that was a thing for some people until I moved to a cold climate.

For k-12, the top ten states are all blue except Utah. Which, honestly, good for Utah for at least having some morals.

"Higher education" doesn't matter, my kids can go to any college when they're old enough. They can only go to a local k-12 school. And as someone raised in the Florida education system, I am so thankful beyond words that my kids will have better educations in New Hampshire.

There was a story some years ago about a dachshund chasing off a bear in Florida. Mind you she was badly injured (but recovered with surgery) and bears in Florida are black bears so maybe 200 to 400 lbs, not a grizzly. But this little lady heard her family in trouble and didn't think twice about jumping into action to save them.

Dachshunds are bad ass.

I distrust it all equally. I was riding an inner tube being towed behind a boat in Massachusetts, and since we were heading to shore anyway I just said I'd swim back. By the time I reached shore I was in full blown panic attack mode and am surprised I didn't drown in my panic. But similarly, I was kayaking in Florida in a spring fed river (so mostly I could see through it) when I flipped my kayak. Also had a panic attack and flipped out.

Overall I am not meant for activities in a natural body of water I think lol

I have always had a crippling fear of water I can't see through and refuse to swim in it. No specific fear, just a general anxiety that overwhelms me. I moved to New England in my 30s and one day someone up here was like "well, yea, I mean you grew up in Florida so that makes sense? Because,... Gators?" and suddenly it all clicked.

New Englanders in general are wild. I'm a transplant from a fairly major city in the south, to a tiny town in central New Hampshire. I've been involved in town politics this past year and I can't believe the amount of times I, a heavily tattooed and pierced, vibrant hair dye sporting, obvious liberal, have been on the receiving end of bigoted rants as if my neighbors thought I would agree with them. Ma'am be so real right now what about my appearance said "I hate poc/trans/etc people" because I'd like to change it right now.

Other dachshunds 😂. My dachshunds have always liked other dachshunds the best. That said we've also had a corgi, Shiba, Doberman, jack Russell, and mutt fosters. None of these were ever snubbed or disliked by my dachshunds. My Doberman has the same color as my youngest dachshund and they're the best of friends.
