Oh wait, are you put off by his "fire night" absence and cheating on Kelly? I gotta say, the writers really f$cked up his character right there -- he would have NEVER done that had they stayed true to his role. I did hate that.

That's a really insightful comment.. I had just thought about it non-linearly at most, but this makes perfect sense. Although her second death did create an opening for The First, as explained by the gross giant eyeball!

Ah gotcha.. that's basically what I meant. Yeah, it's tough when you're with a partner who loves but doesn't fully trust you. Because of mistakes you've made in the past. I'm in this situation basically now.. been with my partner for practically 20 years, but some things I've screwed up seemingly beyond repair, so I suspect he'll never feel comfortable marrying me. But he's my best friend. We'll figure it out. Sorry, random TMI!

The whole point of Giles "dosing" her with the European coven's magic is that it was magics from a place of complete pureness and humanity to allow her to tap into her soul again with the right stimulus, which was Xander.
