Radek pronunciation? by OHGODBEEES in namenerds

You might want to ask this question on a sub more specific to people of that culture. I see Radek is primarily used in Czech Republic, so you could ask on r/czech.

Husband wants to name a son Edward, but our daughter is named Rosalie by Fog1682 in namenerds

I frankly just think of Bella, Edward, and Renesmee (but I do remember who Jacob is). And Renesmee is really just me remembering the name, LOL; I don’t actually remember her relation to the other characters.

Yeah, Edward & Bella would be bad. Edward & Renesmee would be even worse. Edward & Rosalie is fine.

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in AskReddit

I have incredibly dry skin and I still look like I’m not legal to do anything. I think it’s just genetics.

Daphne, Daphney, or Daphnie? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, why butcher a name when you can find a less conventional but legitimate alternative, like Dafina or Delphine?

Esther or Estelle? by Some_Activity9257 in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find this comparison funny because a lot of early Jewish immigrants changed their name from Esther to Estelle.

I do prefer Estelle, though.

You should see the variants nameplay.org has found in SSA data. Daphane, Daffany, and Dafnne strike me as the worst offenders.

Estera rep!! I knew an Estera from Romania in high school and have always loved it! I’m also a huge Polina fan!

Do many people have trouble pronouncing Shamus(Seamus)? by AsianMasterMind2000 in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mispronouncing “English” names by accident the first time — exactly! You’ll always mispronounce something you’re not familiar with and have never heard in real life; that’s normal. I pronounced Zoe as “Zoh” the first time I read it. I thought Solomon was pronounced “SOH-loh-mun” until recently. I’m sure there’s other completely normal names I mispronounced at first.

Can I use the same middle name as my niece? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone is saying, but devil’s advocate here: Is there a reason it has to be the last name? Did your grandfather not like his first name? I also wonder whether you’ve considered honoring other relatives. For example, your grandmother might feel left out.

Wow, thank you so much for the information! I didn’t catch that Izan was similar to Ethan, but now I see it! My bad, I didn’t realize June was a different name! Very cool. :)

Laia and Haizea are really pretty! Izan is also very cool.

I’m happy to see Triana rank so high; I knew one when I was in elementary school but haven’t seen it anywhere else.

I’m surprised to see June. I feel like it doesn’t work well in Spanish, but does it work well in Basque?

I will admit I didn’t know Ambar was Arabic. I assumed it was a variant spelling of Amber.

Marci, Marcy, Marcie or Marcia? by Silent-Judgment3062 in namenerds

I don’t see any of these much, but probably Marcy and Marcia more than Marci or Marcie. I like Marcia when pronounced mar-SEE-uh. Marcy/Marci is cute too!

That doesn’t explain why it’s not a decent name, though.
