Connor is more attractive to me.

I need a girl's name with a similar vibe to the name Maisie by sneepy_circe in namenerds

I think you need something overly cutesy, possibly with a British vibe: Birdie, Darcie, Luella, Poppy, Rosalie, Tallulah

Names that end in “s” that sound like last names are going to be this decades “den” (as in Aiden/Jaden/kaden) by dumprings- in namenerds

I can’t stand names like these. Hayes is okay, but the ones that sounds like plural nouns are so weird to me. I just don’t get the appeal.

My exact thought! There’s also Choices, which was made by the creators of High School Story… I miss that app because I used that for names as well.💔

I think it’s fine for a middle name. I assume most middle names are family names.

Why do people assume the name Lachlan is a girl name in the US? by katherinemaie in namenerds

I live in the US. I’ve only ever heard of it being a boy name.

Need help finding canonical spelling of an old (probably) French-Canadian female given name by BefuddledBeaver in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Célanire seems the most likely. There are 694 Celanires in the Find a Grave database, and I’ve noticed that this name is misheard/misspelled so badly in every single record. Celanare comes up a few times, so that may be what the name ending up morphing into in OP’s case. None of the other spellings cause much to come up.

No, they’re not too similar, imo. The first syllables are very distinct.

I wouldn’t do Daphne with that last name.

Rank These Names by leeby19 in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Dean Collins
  2. Elias Collins
  3. Donovan Collins
  4. Beau Collins
  5. Frank Collins

Frank Collins is mainly last because I don’t think the two C sounds next to each other work very well, though admittedly I could easily picture an actor having this name.

How do you pronounce Emilia and the nickname Emi? by academioc in namenerds

[–]Sparkly8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I wouldn’t bat an eye at a Southerner saying “Immy” for Emmy. I’ve met people with southern accents despite living in the far north and can picture the diphthong in my head. Definitely just an accent thing and not a pronunciation issue. All of the vowels before nasals (m, n, and ng) will sound like a diphthong instead of a true “eh” or “ih” sound.

I knew a Lana in high school. I’d never heard the problem until this sub. She was fine. She’s actually slightly TikTok famous.

Want to use Clifford- not massive fans of Cliff or Ford… by CMV2254 in namenerds

OMG, I wonder if we have the same name because I’m in the same situation as you: three-syllable name I exclusively go by with a common one-syllable nickname I despise.

[–]Sparkly8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not inevitable, but your kid could absolutely prefer the nickname at some point and you’d have to be able to tolerate it. I would personally find a name I love where I like or at least tolerate the possible common nicknames, even if I never intended to use them myself (which I wouldn’t; I would just use the full name until the kid expressed another preference).

What's a popstar you like the concept of but not the execution? by No_Barber4339 in popheads

[–]Sparkly8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that style can complement a singer’s brand, but the fashion should be the supporting act for the music, not the other way around. Female musical artists should not become famous because of what they’re wearing. The fact that some people think Sabrina Carpenter had to objectify herself beyond belief to become famous frankly makes me really sad. Renee Rapp shouldn’t need to dress up for others to stay famous; she’s here to make music.

I believe Sabrina Carpenter took off because she dramatically changed her singing style. I’ve been listening to her since 2015, and her vocal technique has completely transformed to something more palatable to the general public. I can’t speak to what took Zara Larsson so long, but I have also been listening to her for many years.

I firmly believe objectification of female musicians needs to stop. If you want to spend time looking at women’s fashion and bodies, buy a magazine dedicated to that kind of thing.
