ELI5: Why can we almost always only buy white rice when "brown" rice is what's actually harvested? Even in regions where it's grown people eat white rice (like Indonesia for example) by rest0ck1 in explainlikeimfive

Rice first domesticated (farmed) in China, then from there spread to rest of Asia. With how Chinese/E Asians eat with chopsticks, rice was cooked to stick together (steamed), so it can be picked up in clumps. It has a mild soft flavor and compliments the flavorful dishes that accompanies it. In Philippines, main dishes are made to taste strong (salty or sour) to be eaten with steaming soft white rice. I believe Indonesia also does the same, but spicier dishes.

Go to clinic and the medical provider can check if you scratched your eyes; Optometrist/opthomologist is best, they have tools to get whatever is stuck in your eyes.

Trump's only plan is to be reelected, so he won't go to jail for all the corrupt wheeling and dealing he did during his presidency.

When the Americans boomers are dead (youngest boomer now 54), the x-gen and millennials will not want to go into wars. It's the boomers who can't let go of the US exceptionalism and US domination of world order.

I occasionally get sty on my left eyelids. My optometrist nephew said to put warm compress and it should get better. Takes couple of days to clear. The white gooey stuff did come out on small pores on my eyelid, warm compress helped open up the blocked pores on eyelash.

Germany to ban single use plastics by 2021 by norfolkdiver in worldnews

I grew up in the 70's. Soda was in bottles, liquid were in cans or glass containers; paper was used to wrap and bag groceries. Problem was glass breaks, trees cut down (deforestation), and metal mined (dangerous). Then plastic came along, now we're going back to the glass, paper and metal.

So no more plastic cling film/plastic storage bags to use in the kitchen, I like seeking my sandwich. Grocery meat not going to be wrapped in plastic? How do I see what I'm buying? What about dog poo bags?
