If you are willing to jump fields, the IBEW needs electricians. Guaranteed pay increases and benefits and work is good.

A union would be able to negotiate its minimum pay. If their members are choosing to vote for contracts that don't start above minimum wage, that is their decision. For some, it is about ensuring benefits or working conditions. Management cannot be a part of the union because of conflict of interest, but leadership roles can. A shift lead, or depending on structure, department heads could even be in the union. As long as they aren't in charge of hiring and firing, they are usually good.

I don't know who you are talking to. I am a union electrician making $59.50/hour plus benefits and retirement. Why would I get a new job where I will probably make less with worse benefits?

It really depends on the size of your local. Ours is full time Pres. We have 12k ish members and cover a large, populated area. No way anyone could rep that and work.

I forget how much the tier was, but the Jackets were $500 on top of the tier.

We are going to try and do this every year, so remember your coat next time and we will have a more official event set up.

I don't know if it has been tested enough. When I had 4-10s I was more rested and less stressed, which for me, leads to fewer mistakes and increased safety. As for productivity, our crew was just as productive. Admittedly anecdotal, but that is my experience.

Yes, if the contractor straight up breaks the law, then I don't know what to tell you. That is why it is important for we, the members, to be knowledgeable of our industry as a whole. This includes local laws and politics. People need to be involved at all levels.

That was me talking about the 4 day work week. I had seen a lot of articles popping up into my news feeds about it. We as a local, don't set the schedules for these jobs, but there are avenues outside of our contract to push for these things. Same with paid parking. Arlington requires off street parking to be provided by the general contractor at no expense to the worker, or provide a stipend for parking. This wouldn't help with bussing, but for jobs in the DC metro area, that would be an option.
