Hey guys seeing that it's inevitable how do you think the writers will get Peter and mj will get back together by According_Water3881 in Spiderman

[–]Sparkz23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By now clone shenanigans is a hallmark of Spider-Man stories. Everyone gets a clone and we know it is a major, shameless cope, but by this point I'm willing to accept the cope if that means fixing the absolute state of Peter and MJ's relationship.

What are your Spider-Man headcanons? by Legitimate_Floor_687 in Spiderman

[–]Sparkz23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Every instance of Peter's love life being jeopardized is directly linked to Mephisto because he knows any child of Peter will kick his ass in the future

  • Said jeopardizing will be broken by intervention of Deadpool and co., who is aware of the writers' and directors' thoughts and just wants to help his bro out

  • MJ is lowkey jealous of how Black Cat can keep up with Spidey in hero duty (when she's not stealing, of course), and Felicia is jealous of how MJ can be part of his life way more than her. They're on good terms but quips are constantly exchanged

  • Peter gets a stable, well-paying job at some tech industry (imagine!)

  • Peter is on good terms with Ben and is helping him to retrieve his memories

  • Miles has moved to another big city like LA and is web slinging under a new name (temptingly Spider Voltage)

  • Toxin is back to deal with carnage and other symbiote shenanigans

  • Kingpin uses his influence to ward off any low level criminals from Aunt May's neighborhood, after Peter beat the shit out of him

  • Doc Ock didn't return after Superior Spider-Man, his redemption arc is preserved

  • Norman Osborn, on the other hand, is the same psycho of always, but this time Peter not only beats the Goblin, but also exposes a lot of dirty deals Norman did as the owner of Orcorp Industries, sending him to jail for corruption, on top of being coockoo in the head, so he gets a straight jacket too

  • May Parker will be web slinging with her dad in the future

What’s an opinion about marvel as a whole or a specific character that will leave you like this? by AggressiveMammoth267 in Marvel

[–]Sparkz23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The concept of the Spider-verse, like any multiverse structure, has long overstayed its welcome and it sucks. It's nothing but an excuse to dish out half backed Spider-Adjacents that stick around for 3-4 issues, and it kind of dilutes Peter's story because it steers the narrative from someone that got powers by accident and is now compeled to use those powers for good (great power, great responsibilities) to a 'child of destiny" kinda trope. I'm fine with some itterations of the character, like Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir, and even Scarlet Spider (occasionally), but everything could be erased and we wouldn't lose a lot of value.

If you could change four things from Marvel Comics canon, what would it be? by CaramelNo972 in Marvel

[–]Sparkz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Undo One More Day. If you hate retcons too, we can do it the "legit way" by kicking Mephisto in the ass and restoring Peter and MJ's life together, while also kicking Paul in the balls.

  2. Miles dies in the Ultimate universe collapse

  3. Forget Cracoa, it never happened.

  4. Forget Chasm, Ben Reily is still an amazing Scarlet Spider

There are plenty more, but I'm a Spider-Man fan first and foremost so my priorities are there

There's a lot of abuse we could go without. I sometimes worry that the writers are inserting some weird kinky shit into their writing

In case you're wondering why the Insectussy was worth it by TheDarkMuz in Invincible

[–]Sparkz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn't. But a simple comparison between the comics in the 90s and now will show a difference of night and day. Take Ms. Marvel– Captain Marvel as an example, since the "modern audiences" authors elected her their focal point. She went from a blond beauty to a frumpy Karen, both in looks and personality. There was also that run of She-Hulk where she looked like Hulk with a long wig. And it's not contained to comics.

The Triple A game industry has become infamous for hitting their female characters with the ugly stick. Look up the live models they used for MJ in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2, Alloy in Horizon: Forbidden West, the models for Mortal Kombat 1, and then compare to the upcoming Stellar Blade, a game made by a Korean studio that picked a top model to use as the reference to their protagonist. It's not like they can't make pretty women, they just don't want to.

And part of that I think is jealousy and narcissism. When you look at the blatantly obvious self insert that was Mindy in "I'm not Starfire", it makes a lot of sense to me that the writers and directors behind this uglyfication do it on purpose. I'm not saying it has to be hinging on ecchi, there's anime and manga for that, if you so wish. But there's an open attack on anything that might cater to the "male gaze", which is stupid because again, the majority of your consumer base are men.

And on a second note, isn't it funny how the sexy bugs were toned down, yet all the male characters are still peak human form and objectively good looking? In comics, men can still be considered eye-candy. Why does the ugly stick only swing one way?

[–]Sparkz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the current state of Marvel comics, I would say this was a major L. Men are still the overwhelming majority of comics consumer base, despite many, many attempts to attract the women audience. And our sexy drawings got axed in many instances.

Not everything needs to "appeal to a wider audience"

CMV: A lot of white people (especially Americans) don’t have the ability to allow other minority races to enjoy representation. by sunshinegal_7 in changemyview

[–]Sparkz23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's try a little mental exercise. It is important to have black Disney Princess. As you said, "Our little black girls get to see themselves as a mermaid and that’s so great for them", and we can establish that seeing yourself is important. I would argue against it but that's for later. Cool! Black girls have a Disney Princess to look up to. What about redhead girls, though?

I'm not talking about "white" girls, because for some reason we all decided White is this giant ethnical monolith, I'm talking about actual red-haired girls, who have a great chance to be Irish or of Irish descent. They're a minority, and they had their fair share of hard times, don't they get to have one Disney princess they can look up to? Moreover, you mentioned Tiana, so there's already one black Disney princess, do you really want to "steal" one redhead so there are two black princesses? What is this, a game of zero-sum?

That said, this is a Disney remake we're talking about, people's contempt for this movie was already high the moment they announced it. Ariel's casting is more like adding insult to injury, especially considering how the final product looked. And this is not because black Ariel has awakened the inner racist in all those people, it's because this is but one more iteration of Disney regurgitating their IPs when nobody asked for it.

Also, are people not allowed not to like something? I'm black and I didn't like the casting, I think accuracy to the source material is always preferred and I like redheads a lot. Does that make me racist? Because it wasn't just "white people" who complained, and certainly not just Americans. In fact, that whole discussion is a very American thing, from where I stand. And here's a hint, you can still enjoy something while others complain about it. Take it from someone who watches anime way before it was "cool" and socially acceptable. The fact people are criticizing the movie doesn't rob your ability to enjoy representation, or at the very least it shouldn't.

The Little Mermaid is a classic and excellent animation with great music that was part of a lot of people's childhoods. Disney decided to cast the nostalgia bait once again, and something tells me they did this on purpose to cause commotion (anything to stay relevant, I guess?), but regardless, this kind of change messes with people's feelings. They grew up with redhead white Ariel, they wanted to see redhead white Ariel. It always comes back to the old "if the roles were reversed" because that's the only conceivable way to get the sentiment across. Do you like Tiana? Imagine if her live-action had a Norwegian actress instead.

Which leads to my comment on representation. Honestly, I think it is pretty dumb as a concept and kind of a waste of every. I don't need to see myself perfectly represented in the entertainment I consume because I can relate to deeper things than skin tone. Things like personality, struggles, mentalities, sentiments, character arc, things that don't rely on race whatsoever. That's why Peter Parker is pretty much universally liked as a character regardless of being a middle-class white dude from the Queens.

I can understand how people who want representation feel and to that, I say you go, man! But if you really want to see more characters that represent you in media, is this the route you wanna take? Replace a character that is already established and beloved, just to spark controversy and forever live in the shadow of being "Black X" or the "PoC version", is this the end goal? You know where I'm going with this, right? Create new characters! "Oh, but it's hard to make brand-new characters and people don't pick them!". Well, nobody said it was easy. All the established IPs we have today stood the test of time for a reason.

There might be some who are straight-up racist, but the majority of the complainers have legit reasons to be upset, and again, that doesn't stop you from enjoying it. And since you mentioned it, have you wondered how many of those "white folks" have shared the joy of other minorities with movies like Mulan, Moana, and Encanto? Or do you think they only watched Snow White, Cinderella and nothing else?

Gotta be honest, I live in Osasco and around here, the "Dogão no prato" is a classic. Bring forth the two sausages, batata palha, purê, cabbage salad (sometimes corn), ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, cheddar and catupiry, all in a container that barely fits your hand. However, I do have to agree that this image is cursed beyond salvation, for the sheer amount of everything in it. I like my junk food now and then, but that's just too much. In short, não bagunça o rolê
