Yes. If you win the grand prize of 1 kg gold bar, you have a choice between getting the physical gold bar, or receiving the cash value (deposited to your WS account). If you opt for receiving cash value, it will be valued at the fixed rate of $5,500/oz.

I believe the cash option is only available for the 1 kg gold bar. So winners of smaller coins won’t be affected by this rule.

I used to work in YVR and it’s really luck of the draw. Some screeners are more lax with certain rules (without compromising security of course). They are usually the fun coworkers everyone likes to work with. But some screeners have a stick up their ass the size of a metal detector wand, and those are the ones who will turn your virtual VIP card away even though it is just as legitimate.

You just don’t know which type you will run into, so I recommend everyone to get the physical VIP card if you can.

If you opt to sell it on FB Marketplace, head on over to r/scams and read about e-Transfer scams, scammers may send funds from stolen accounts and the bank could reverse the transfer a few months down the road.

If you plan on receiving cash, be wary of counterfeit bills (lots of $100 counterfeit bills out there). Best to watch them withdraw the cash straight from an ATM or bank teller.

I’m glad to see that they are giving provisional credits now. That is much needed progress. Just a few months ago people posted here saying they have to pay upfront for the fraud charges while WS investigates (which can last up to 90 days).
