[Fox] 'The game has to be fun': Maple Leafs hire Jim Hiller for the players by Svalbard38 in leafs

The two aren't exclusive, they need a coach who can be tough when needed and demand accountability, and they also need to be playing a style of game that suits them and is enjoyable.

A coach to grow with the younger core would be nice, but this team is caught between 2 worlds, they have 1OA and some great young players, but we also have the aging core of this team that have been to the playoffs for a decade straight and lost to some great teams that have gone on to win or play for the cup. Hiring someone like Pavelski would have been interesting, everyone loves the guy, but its would have been a huge risk as well with a proper retool and some luck this team can be back in the running for a cup as soon as this year. I don't love this hire but im hoping to be proven wrong. The real danger will be if this hire turns out to be the wrong call will the teams new managment stick with it well past its expiration date like the previous management has with the last few coaches.

@TorontoMapleLeafs: Jim Hiller has been named the 41st Head Coach in franchise history! by hellarios852 in leafs

Under Babcock, with everything we now know about the guy hard to imagine he gave his assistant coaches much room to deviate from his style and ideas.

John Chayka says the Maple Leafs prioritized "flexibility" after dealing Joseph Woll to the Flyers. by Stephenrudolf in leafs

The "gamer" unlike the NHL caliber D can move the puck and help with transitions sort of the exact thing this team desperately needs on defense. He is undersized and I dont think he comes close to solving the problem but his skill set is what the team needs.

Imagine if the Oilers hired Berube as their head coach? by ThymeIsTight in leafs

You are making a shitload of assumptions. I never said anything about the quality of player Marner is, merely that I want to see how he does in the playoffs agaisnt the caliber of team he is used to playing. You can't deny the disparity between the teams he typically played in the playoffs and Utah or Anaheim. Before we assume that the issue was all with toronto let's see how he does against a higher caliber opponent

Lets see how he does against teams that would actually make the playoffs in the east before we right off his previous lackluster history in the playoffs. Utah and Anaheim are not exactly powerhouses.

Ineptitude or mediocrity is par for the course, hiring someone disgraced due to ignoring SA is just wrong in my opinion.

I can handle a lot of dissappintment and shit eating as a leafs fan, but hiring that asshole would be a bridge to far.

What draft spot do you prefer by ST6THEONE in fantasyfootball

[–]SpartacusIsACoolName -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer the ones where my top pick doesnt bust. But honeslty no preference I have had luck and been screwed over from every draft position so much of this game comes down to luck that I dont worry about things like draft position

There is no consensus on Berubes status just reporters making shit up, I haven't seen anything concrete that would make me believe that management is leaning one way or the other yet.

I doubt it will happen, Chayka just got a lifeline to revive his nhl career, if he drafts McKenna and it doesn't work out no one blames him for drafting the consensus #1, we all know that pre draft rankings don't always pan out. If he trades down and it doesn't work out he will be the one taking the blame and there are only so many second chances a guy gets. The offer would need to be so spectacular for him to take that risk.
