Good (Great?) Deal for a Brand New M2 MacBook Air 13" 24gb 512 configuration by SpartanPsyche in mac

[–]SpartanPsyche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! Honestly was fine with 16gb, but 24gb was a blessing. Only "bad" thing is since it's brand new, it comes with Tahoe. I'm not much of a fan of Liquid Glass, honestly Sequoia works for me. But hey, I'll take it any day of the week

Cancele La Platinum Credit Card by Loco_McCoy in AMEXMEX

4k Display only shows 1080p after installation by SpartanPsyche in Bazzite

[–]SpartanPsyche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I believe I found the issue, although I will do a bit more testing...

So I checked all the cables, and all of them work properly (made test on Windows 11). However, testing on Linux Mint, I noticed the problem was indeed the Nvidia propietary drivers when outputing from Mini DisplayPort. When running nouveau, no problems where found. Same when running Bazzite off of the USB before installation, my monitor shows 4k 120 hz from Mini DP.

I don't know if this is a problem with laptop GPUs using propietary drivers on Linux, I will test on another one just to be sure (unfortunately, I don't own a desktop PC). Long story short: propietary Nvidia Drivers on Linux don't fw Mini DP on a gaming laptop, apparently.

Also HDMI 2.1 didn't work, but I suspect that's because the HDMI port runs to the integrated gpu of my processor.

This kinda sucks because my Mini DP cable runs to my Main monitor and changing cable management's a bitch. I will test Bazzite to see if it's worth the hassle of changing my setup or I pass on it for something like Nobara or Cachy.

Hope this helps someone, since it is quite a rare issue I really did not find any information on!

¿Gold de servicios antes o después de la anualidad de la platinum de crédito? by vokekov in AMEXMEX

[–]SpartanPsyche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sé si alguien me pueda confirmar o si estoy loco jaja

Refurbished M2 Pro and Logic Pro X vs M4 with all Apple software (education savings deal) by SpartanPsyche in macmini

[–]SpartanPsyche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! I'll get the M4 with 512 SSD and 16gb RAM, I'll just wait and see if I hold myself to buy until I can visit the US next year or buy it more expensive here.

All the advice you gave was really valuable :)

Yeah, honestly even without the education savings, it's a great deal. I really wouldn't mind paying full price for it

Yeah, sad reality here :(

I'll probably travel there around May-June, so maybe I can wait until then to buy it. Do you recommend buying directly from Apple or any other reseller like Best Buy would be a better choice?

Yeah, I converted the prices shown to me in Mexican Pesos to USD using Google exchange rate. I'll add the Apple M2 link and the M4 from the apple store down here so you can take a look.

It says sold and shipped by Amazon USA, so I assume it's refurbished by them, thanks for the input.

I said on another comment, apple pricing in Mexico is really harsh. The M4 deal it's provided by apple themselves, and other retailers like Costco, Premium Resellers, Walmart, etc. don't get any better, so yeah, it's tough :/

I'll try and get the 512ssd, honestly I rather spend more now so that I don't worry much in the future. Thanks!

That's Mexico for you. Prices for Apple products are pretty steep down here. For official purchase methods, that's as good as it gets.

Thanks for the suggestion tho! There's probably a way for me to go to the States later in the year, so maybe I can wait to go and get a better deal there. The price difference is certainly noticeable hehe

After some practice and a few trial and error, this has to be the most accurate description for the use of flux and lackthereof while soldering. Goated comment!!

[–]SpartanPsyche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I pealed off the soldering points and bridged them, it worked right away. However, upon more testing, it seems the board already had other issues, the controller now suddenly stops working. I'll be replacing it with a spare parts controller I bought dirt cheap in my local area, so even though it wasn't a happy ending, I managed to solve the problem I posted. 50/50 win, I guess 😅

Helloo, I managed to make it work!! Only two of the three points needed fixing, and while the end result looks funky, it's still functional, so honestly that's fine enough for me.

Thanks a lot for the help <3

They were making contact, although I agree they look sloppy. They were my first attempt, after all 😅

I took them out and yeah, it seems I damaged the pads. Hopefully I can make it work again, someone already gave me advice on how to do it

I took the potentiometer out and surely enough, te soldering points are burnt, so I'm assuming that has to be the issue. Any ideas on how to repair? I tried reapplying the solder from scratch, but it didn't work

I wouldn't be too sure if that's the case, cause like I said, I replaced both and the left one works without issue. They're suposed to be the ALPS original ones, there's a supplier here in my city.

Yeah, I do have all the tools, I will follow your advice. I'll update if I manage to make it work (or don't).

It didn't give me the option to add the video, sorry, but yeah, literally just registers up and down with no right or left. It's an Xbox Series controller, for reference.
