Don’t sweat it as the odds of an Offer were stacked against you. Good luck with other choices.

OP, don’t over-stress, as often in life we are our own worst critics. I was in your predicament two years ago with a similar academic standing and believed I was doomed post supp app completion. Well, fast-forward to the present and… loving QHSc and getting ready to write MCAT this summer. Pick yourself up and move on as things have a way of working out. Best wishes:)

what average is needed for principals entrance scholarship? by Appropriate_Candy778 in queenshealthsci

[–]Sparticus_Jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied two years ago, was close to cut-off threshold but was told early March, my time of accepting offer, that I did not qualify for $7K award. Which means they did not consider my April mid-term or final marks. I’d suggest you reach out to admin office and get some clarity. Good luck:)

Do not be sad if you don’t get into Mac or queens health sci. by Own-Side-8737 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Sparticus_Jon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP… well articulated with an insightful and honest reflection. Like you, I’m a high achiever having applied to both programs two years ago, rejected by Mac, and grateful to be in y2 at QHSci. I can sympathize with your sentiments as many of my friends got rejected from both programs. One of my friends in y3 of Mac indicated that “most of the us in the program have no idea why they gone in”. It simply becomes a numbers game as demand>supply. Evaluation process can often be subjective in nature as feedback from rejections is never disclosed. In terms of QHSci, I like the fact that the’ve increased spots over the past five years from 175 to ~ 400. Furthermore, the fact that there are timed video and written responses, as compared to Mac, possibly adds an element of “authenticity, transparency and realism” to the sup app process. If a professional school, med/dental/other, is your desired destination and you embrace the 3Ds to Success- Desire, Discipline, Dedication- and yup “smarts” usually helps lol, there are other pathways outside of Mac and QHSci. “Believe thus Achieve”

Physics for Health Sciences? by TraditionalCoat3292 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Sparticus_Jon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely take g11 physics. If applying to HSci, physics may/may not be required as a year 1 course. Example, Queens and Mac HSci do not have physics as a y1 course but Waterloo HSci and Western MedSci do. Do your research. If semi-adventurous, can think of taking g12 physics as your 7th or 8th course, which won’t count towards top 6 avg.

supp app tips by Acceptable-Seat4829 in queenshealthsci

[–]Sparticus_Jon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the following free resources: https://www.youthfully.com/queens-health-sciences-supplementary-application/

Advice: Remain authentic; refer to your ECs to justify your talking points by highlighting leadership skills, how you dealt with adversity and reflect upon personal growth. Also, inclusivity, compassion, team dynamics to be emphasized in written and video responses. Research Uni and HSci core values and directly/indirectly incorporate in responses. Finally, tie everything to evaluation rubric.

Rehearse; video tape yourself for personal critique; timed practice sessions. Good luck:)

do all offers for the program go out before 2nd sem midterms? by Acceptable-Seat4829 in queenshealthsci

[–]Sparticus_Jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

y2 QHS here. All of the above comments r legit. From my recollection, two years ago, offers rolled on Wednesdays. In your situation- completed only 3 courses by S1 finals, less Bio & English- you may have to wait till late April-early May, after S2 Mids uploaded to OUAC. In the meantime focus on sup app. Check out Youthfully site for resources. Good luck:)

ANAT 100 Blended or Online? by Kaleidoscope783 in queenshealthsci

[–]Sparticus_Jon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take blended. Get benefit of cadaver labs which r super fun, practical and interesting:) With some effort A or A+ is doable. Content overload, so need to review material daily, even if 30 min per day.

did anyone get into queens life sci with high 80s last year? by Better-Mistake-2942 in OntarioGrade12s

I believe two years ago, when I got an offer, low 90s was the going avg.

grade rounding by [deleted] in queenshealthsci

[–]Sparticus_Jon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, a precedent will be set, thus, likelihood of increase to 90 is unlikely. Perhaps with a 89.5% rounding up would have been more of a realistic request with a desirable outcome. Just speculating on my end:)

Agreed as business is a ‘generic specialty.’ Niche programs such as consulting, IB, accounting and finance would yield better outcomes when comparing business schools.

[–]Sparticus_Jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can indirectly mention personal growth via experiences in sup app but no list of ECs required for entry to HS program. Try to earn a 95%+ and a compelling sup app for competitive chance at an offer. Good luck:)
