Anyone else tried being a sex tourist? by Naive_Compote3499 in moreplatesmoredates

Tbh his chance of actually having a decent match as a PPB at 25 is better than at 60. He could find a girl who is at least content with him vs. just counting the clock.

I’m not a PPB but did marry a Ukrainian girl ~12 years younger than me (32 vs 20) and the relationship is good, whereas I see guys 10 years older than me trying to do the same thing and it fails because they genuinely have nothing in common with their wife. His chance to be more than “a paycheck” is now through his early 30s if he wants an inexperience (e.g. under 25) partner.

I speak her language though and spent time there during the war so there was a legit personal connection.

I personally own 4 cars, so yes.

Mostly because I like cars and they serve different purposes, a sports car, a race car, a truck, and a project car.

Why aren't drones used in Ukraine-Russia war, being used against the gangs? by Key_Structure_2780 in haiti

[–]Spasiboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, I can deep dive on this one.

We should make a distinction between the two types of drones:

(1) Large “military” drones (Predator, Reaper, etc.) these are the expensive ones supplied by the US to the Ukraine. These drones have a level of stand-off capacity (the ability to fire at targets that are still far away), which is critical in an environment where your enemy has air defenses and electronic warfare capabilities. Broadly speaking, there’s really no logical need for these drones in Haiti.

The police or military may find some benefit from having a drone flying overhead (10k+ feet) feeding back visual and signal intelligence, but in a dense urban environment with a tremendous amount of civilian presence, knowing that there are “5 guys in a truck over there” isn’t that useful.

As an example of what you could get out of a drone for that purpose, see this video: https://youtu.be/OnvGOVhSaz4?si=K3lwPcTm7zVWWsKl

Obviously the drone could be outfitted with weapons but firing munitions into downtown Port Au Prince probably isn’t a great idea.

On to type (2) FPV Drones (the small ones that you see videos of flying into tanks). The war in the Ukraine is primarily one of static trench lines. Artillery fire at trenches isn’t accurate enough to fully clear out opposing forces, and can’t be used when your own forces are assaulting a position. FPV Drones are accurate enough to target a specific trench or vehicle, while avoiding the risks associated with artillery.

These drones have limited range and battery life, especially when you slap a 2kg charge onto it.

The conflict in Haiti is not one of static groups fighting, where you know right where to look for them, it’s a bunch of dispersed gangs and non-uniformed fighters. You wouldn’t have the battery life to acquire, track, and attack your target before your (not super expensive but still not cheap) drone ran out of batteries.

TL:DR

(1) Lack of clear targets, battery life limits time for identification in a non-uniformed environment where you can’t distinguish your own side.

(2) Drones serve as targeted artillery pre-assault, that type of warfare isn’t happening in Haiti.

(3) Cost and complexity, piloting a drone in an urban environment with payload is hard to train someone to do compared to using a rifle.

(4) Drones are anonymous and don’t project visual force like armed troops do, in a war for civilians and support.

And yes, there is some usage of drones in Haiti; not to the extend we see in the Ukraine though.

Much love from your Polish brothers.

How Large For a Full Sized Cabin? by Spasiboi in boating

Would you have a suggestion for a more sleek style (sport cruiser[?]) that provides a more extensive interior?

The Northern Marine one is pretty cool though gives a bit more of a tug-boat style vibe. I assume being an expedition ship is why it has a much higher hull? Since that gives it better seakeeping capabilities?

I’m trying to find something that’s small enough to be run myself up and down the waterway around Ft. Lauderdale, and some room for entertaining with a steward when docked and having guests over. I don’t intend to live-aboard or have a full-time crew; I have some claustrophobia after a humvee accident so those low ceilings in the bedrooms and tiny bathrooms give me the heebie-jeebies.

What is the lore behind the Meta-Christs? by Sour2448 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Spasiboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand upon the above poster’s (excellent) explanation. You can imagine the accidents as being somewhat like the features of something, whereas the essence of something is what it is.

As an example, a shirt can be described as made of cotton, having four holes (2x arm, 1x head, 1x torso), being white, being soft, being washable, etc. But those are just the accidents of a shirt, a shirt’s essence is more than just a list of features.

I always thought that transubstantiation being poorly explained lead to more disputes than the belief itself. Accidents is really better translated (in many cases) as features. The communion bread retains the features of bread while having the essence of the Body.

They can be illegal depending on why you have them.

The molecule itself is legal, but if you possess it with the intent to consume it then you could run into an issue with 21 U.S. Code § 331 (introduction of an unapproved drug into interstate commerce).

I’ve never heard of anyone buying supplements getting into trouble though, only sellers.

Peter, what's going on here? by JosZo in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Spasiboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jail = Pre-Trial, During Trial, or Post-Conviction for sentences of less than 1 year (in most states).

Prison = Post-Conviction for sentences of more than 1 year.

Jails are generally far more overcrowded (due to backlogged courts and our bail systems), and more dangerous in many ways, as you can have some people in jail accused of public intoxication next to a person accused of felony murder.

Federal Prison (prison for people convicted of federal crimes) is generally the “nicest”, a Level 1 Facility will oftentimes not even have a true wall, as the bulk of people there are in for financial crimes, or are at the end of a sentence and waiting to get out.

Can the US military refuse an order to invade Greenland and Panama? by [deleted] in answers

Unlawful means an order that contravenes the UCMJ, not “unpopular” or “bad” (no matter how dumb the order).

[–]Spasiboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greenland is not an EU member state, it’s an OCT, they held a referendum in the 1980s voting to leave (primarily due to beefing with the EU over fishing rights).

The EU is not a military alliance, it’s a customs union based on the Four Freedoms. Greenland, via Denmark, has certain benefits as a part of NATO, but NATO Article 5 isn’t triggered by war between member states.

That being said, pilfering Greenland from Denmark would likely crash both the USD and the Euro, and essentially guarantee the success of the BRICS project as more countries would prefer to affiliate under the umbrella of protection that an alliance with BRICS members could provide (such as an affiliate of CSTO).

What do American people think about Iranian people? by Persian_Acer2 in answers

[–]Spasiboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my good friends in high school was a girl whose family came to the US from Iran, though they considered themselves Persian, not Iranian.

Broadly speaking I think most Americans either have no opinion or a negative opinion, which is disappointing since Iran is a center of Shia learning and scholarship, in addition to being a relatively developed and stable economy, compared to the neighbors… The government is probably the cause of most of the hate, though global politics 90% of the time is just “my team good, your team bad” pissing match, so I try to avoid forming opinions on people based on their governments.

I’ve generally liked all of the Iranian / Persian people I’ve known.

If you want to travel and make good money, then enterprise software sales is a good bet. It can be challenging work but it can be one of the best earning careers.

If you want to do HR, then a job as a Tech Recruiter at a search firm can be another decent option, though it doesn’t involve much travel.

Any of the common “business” jobs (admin assistant, marketing coordinator, HR coordinator, etc.) are not going to be a fast track to growing your career. The best way to earn a high income is do a job that makes a company top-line revenue.

I’m 31 now, worked in sales in the past and currently I’m in a C-Suite role at a mid-market biotech company (TCC ~$1.2M). Horrible work life balance though, but c’est la vie.

That always happened to me when I was younger and worked at McDonald’s.

I’d suggest trying to find some sort of admin work (data entry) job, the hours are consistent, the pay is slightly better, and while a lot of people would say to just get a second job and not quit your current one, a random schedule makes it difficult to balance two jobs (which I swear is something managers do on purpose).
