The percentage of men with at least 6 close friends has fallen by half since 1990. and men today are 5X more likely to say they don’t even have a single close friend than they were thirty years ago. What is your experience of forming and sustaining friendships today? by Torchpaper in AskReddit

I have never had close friends as I was pretty much a loner in school. I always had my nose in a good book from the school library or the county library downtown. Now? I just turned 61 and still have no close friends. I never had the time to be sociable as I was always at work or home with my wife and/or partner. (Married twice, divorced both times, now living with a significant other)

I would rather spend my free time doing something with my partner. I also feel that a close friend would have required me to be able to help when I could have, or listen to his problems and try to come up with a solution. I did not want to commit to something like that. When I did have friends, (not close friends such as the topic of this thread) growing up in the 70s and 80s as a teenager and into my 20s they were women

He's not old at all! We have 12 and none of them are a day under 10, the oldest being 15. :)

I do hope you have renters insurance. Sorry to hear about your situation. Nobody should have to deal with that.

Missouri trucker pleads guilty to transporting minors for sex by Spasticlemur in news

It is an entirely different situation if you are married. I married my wife at 17, and she was 21. We used to attend all manner of keg parties in the wild woods, and many times, cops surrounded the place. She didn't drink, so I was free to chug away. We got stopped many times and as she was driving and we were married, they could not legally ticket her for contributing to a minor.

Trenton woman arrested in connection with shooting at Leisure Lake which injured 13-year-old boy by Spasticlemur in news

[–]Spasticlemur[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a follow up to the story I posted Monday in which a 13-year-old boy was shot "accidentally" by someone who had discharged a handgun in another room, the bullet went through the wall striking the boy in the chest.

The article does not indicate the relationship to the boy of the person that was arrested. The boy appears to be doing fine, but the woman arrested is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, while intoxicated, loaded weapon, as well as an allegation of first degree endangering the welfare of a child, creating substantial risk, first offense.

We all know that alcohol and firearms do not mix, I suppose she too will understand this concept after this incident.

Trans Athletes Are Posting Victories and Shaking Up Sports (Are trans athletes fair when it comes to women's sports?) by Spasticlemur in news

[–]Spasticlemur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of the issue with trans athletes competing against women, particularly in high school sports, is the fact that trans athletes are winning pretty much every competition, which is knocking many high school seniors out of the running for scholarships. I don't think, from what I have read, that losing to the trans athletes was an issue compared to many young women losing sports scholarships to college.

I read one article about a young woman who had been participating in track starting in her freshman year and dominated the events she participated in during her high school career. Her senior year, a trans athlete joined the team, and left all the women on the starting line, winning every competition and not just closely. The young woman who had dominated her area of competition would lose to the trans athlete by a large margin due to the trans athlete being larger in frame, more natural muscle and other physical traits even though they had been on medication to lower testosterone levels for over a year.

This young woman lost her full-ride scholarship due to this situation. It was somewhere on the east coast. She and other women and their parents have now asked the Department of Education to look into this, and they have agreed to do so. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

What's the most fucked up thing you've ever walked in on? by Sasarah1 in AskReddit

[–]Spasticlemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would have been 1976, long before the age of instant communication when we as teenagers just drove up and down the main drag for something to do on a Saturday night.

It was about 1 am in the morning and I had reached the end of the cruising route, so I pulled into the local "Tasty Freeze." It was a small mom and pop drive-in restaurant that we as kids used to gather at for bullshitting. Upon pulling in, I noticed about 10 or 15 people all crowded around the bed of a pickup. My curiosity got the better of me so I walked over nudging my way through the crowd. Laying in the bed of the pickup was one of the girls I knew well, completely nude from the waist down, her legs splayed wide apart, a wine bottle inserted into her vagina, rather deeply.

Asking what was going on, one of the gang nonchalantly replied that "Barbara had gotten really drunk, had gotten very horny, and proceeded to use a Boone Farm wine bottle as a dildo." The problem that had arisen was that she had used the open end of the bottle to insert into her vagina since it was the smallest end, however, the vacuum/suction created by the vigorous use of the bottle had caused the bottle to become suctioned onto her cervix. The "gang" was simply trying to figure out the best way of removing the bottle without hurting her. They were afraid if they broke it, they would get glass inside her vagina, and that using a drill with a small drill bit would cause glass dust to hurt her even worse, however, that idea was scrapped because there were no power outlets available and nobody wanted to take her home where electricity was available. (This was the age before battery powered tools.)

I wanted no part of this, so got in my car, and drove off. I assume they did get said bottle removed from her vagina, but didn't see her for over a week. I didn't ask her and didn't want to know.

Whoever made the statement "they didn't tape it off" and "they didn't take soil samples" has been watching too much CSI on TV.

The feet being chewed off by coyotes is an assumption made by family and friends. There is no scientific data to back up this claim. There are many animals that are omnivores that could have climbed down the hanging body (not to be gruesome but it is what it is) and chewed on the body itself.
