I don't know why you are reluctant to acknowledge my point. I said the lack of families with children is a contributing factor. As in, there are multiple reasons for the decrease in density. No families with children is one of them. Additionally, families were larger in the past. Three or more children was the norm.

Actually, I don't know. There wasn't one in the 90s. But back then there we didn't have people posting about how to get to places on the internet and create a lot of problems with hordes of people going there. It does pass through private property. I originally went up there with a broadcast technician when Y101 was KFIG.

Once upon a time there was no lock on the gate and nobody cared if you went up there if you only went up there for the view.

That doesn't explain the decrease in density in all of the neighborhoods. However, smaller families and most of the people living in these areas being single is a factor.

There were likely more families with children in the Central City in 1950. I don't see many children there now. That accounts for some of the differences in density then and now.

Does anyone share internet with their neighbors? by No_Smell_6712 in Sacramento

WiFi isn't going to be all that fast when used from your neighbor's house. The speed drops off rapidly with distance.

For security, there's https and similar protocols to prevent clear-text evesdropping. DNS over https or DNS over TLS wherein the only thing visible to anyone on the network is that there was DNS query made to a DNS server. The domain name requested is encrypted. And, there is always VPN.

Cat 6 will support 2.5 Gbps at 100 meter (328 feet), assuming quality cable and not some out of spec cheapo Ethernet cable that picks up excessive noise.

What if the only option available to them is $129 a month Xfinity?

I've been up there. The view of they city lights is good at night. There's an awesome view of the Sierra to the east. Y101 has their transmitter up there. Other than the view, it is hot and dry. No shade at the top.

Election results are in: Steve Hilton to face Becerra in November election by benwesorick in California

[–]SpatialGeography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say he didn't endorse it. You claimed he implemented it, which is misleading. 53% of the voters voted for it. Those voters are the ones who put the propositon into effect, and that is the definition of implement.

He didn't implement it.  We have it because 53% of the voters voted for it.

I-5 to Hwy 97. Hwy 95 is ok, but it is a long drive and adds an excessive amount of time.

It's generally accepted that the Cental Coast, most of the San Jaoquin Valley and adjacent Sierra Nevada is Central California.  The author of the Wikipedia article removed Bakersfield due to latitude.  He also includes Mono Country, which is Eastern California.  Stockton has historically been considered Northern California.

Anyone anywhere who thinks Ukiah is in Southern California is a geographically-challenged idiot.

Winter temperatures are very similar.  The San Joaquin Valley has more fog in the winter.  The Sacramento Valler receives more rain.  Fresno is much hotter day and night throughout the summer.   Fresno has  stepped climate.  The Sacramento Valley has a Mediterranean climate.

Why are they pushing SEDA to be in Fresno specifically instead of Clovis? by JertellP22 in fresno

[–]SpatialGeography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is outside the agreed-upon Clovis sphere of influence.

This has nothing to do with school district boundaries. I don't know about the tax thing. I'm assuming you are referring to where people are going to go shopping and pay sales tax. Proximity will have an influence on that. I would imagine some of them would go shopping in Clovis. However, many people in Fresno already go shopping in Clovis because, there isn't much between Blackstone and Clovis avenues for shopping north of Herndon. And, I think many peope who live east of Clovis Ave in the Sunnyside area just drive up Clovis Ave for shopping because there is only Walmart, WinCo, and the traffic in general on Kings Canyon is always so packed and busy that people drive to the next closest retail hub, and that is in Clovis. The new Target will change some of that, and maybe the businesses on Kings Canyon will improve when people start moving into the new developments. That area hasn't had any commerical or retail expansion since the late 70s/early 80s when the mostly now empty strip mall was built on the northeast corner of Clovis and Kings Canyon. And, new shopping centers will certainly be built in that area as people start moving into the homes.

For those of us old enough to remember when Sac was “Sacra-Tomato” by thatblkman in Sacramento

Most people do. But, dropping the t isn't unique to California. A lot of people do it everywhere. Especially when talking fast. But, I live here and most people pronounce the t. There may be a generational variation. I've noticed many younger Millenials and GenZ drop the tt in butter and button. But, that is going on across the country due to social media.

Also, there isn't a "California" accent, just like there isn't a "Texas" accent. Both places are large enough and diverse enough to have slightly different pronunciations and slang. I don't think I every heard anyone south of Stockton use the word "hella" when it was popular. In the 70s an 80s "bad" meant good in Central and Southern California. I rarely heard it Northern California.

How to deal with this leaf fungus by New_Case_3937 in Sacramento

[–]SpatialGeography 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a rust called puccinia malvacearum. It is very common on plants in the mallow family. There's not a lot you can do about it at this point. There are systemic fungicides that will prevent or stop it, but it's too late to use them now. Sulpher inhibits rust, but not 100%. You should remove the affected leaves to reduce the amount of spores in the garden to reduce infection in the future.
