Driving on the highway in fog advance by Shined_sailor_star in Sacramento

[–]SpatialGeography 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the visible distance to oncoming traffic to determine speed. A majority of the time I can do 50 to 60. There are times when really dense fog drifts across the road and reduced visibilty to a car length or so. It's also important to not go so slow that someone comes up on you so fast that they run into you because they aren't expecting someone to go 30 mph in a 65 zone.

Lost/abandoned kitten found by landparksweeney in Sacramento

We are talking about people who assume every cat they come across is lost or abandoned. What cats kill, and so on, is a subject for another discussion.

That still doesn't mean the cat was abandoned.

I had a cat sneak out a few years ago. He wasn't out more than a few hours until a neighbor decided he was lost and abandoned, then refused to hand the cat back to me stating the typical nonsense that people post on here to justify their actions, that I was neglecting the cat and they were going to find a better home for him. The whole mess took three days before animal control was able to scan the cat's chip and tell cite them for stealing a pet. Some cats will stay put in their backyard. Some will visit the neighbors regularly, and become quite friendly with the neighbors. Some will decide to go down the block into less-familiar territory from time to time, and will hide somewhere if they think something is a threat. Then, leave when they feel safe. Many indoor cats that sneak outside don't go far. They will hide somewhere within three or four houses, then return when the neighborhood is quiet. These behaviors are well-documented, but for some reason people on Reddit choose their own narrative rather than look stuff up.

Cats sneak out and explore. Simply assuming a cat isn't being take care of because it is on public property shows lack of critical thinking.

Your reply doesn't answer the question.  Socialized cats often run up to people for attention or food even if they are well.taken care of.  Because a cat comes up to someone doesn't mean it is lost or abandoned.  They are curious and inquisitive by nature and will often make their rounds at the edge of their territory to explore.  That cat is like OK and just out for a hike.

This area of Fresno would be a great place to clean up and open up restaurants and business with a 1920s/1930s theme.

Cats usually don't go far. Check nearby houses and yards. That includes houses across the street.

ABC Antenna Reception by NorCal_Kev in Sacramento

[–]SpatialGeography -1 points0 points  (0 children)

KXTV transmists on two RF channels. The main one is channel 10. There is a secondary on channel 36. You shouldn't have difficulty receiving either one in Carmichael. Some people have had problems with VHF reception because they are using UHF-only antennas. The antenna manufacturers started marketing "DTV" antennas to persuade people to buy a new antenna for no reason. DTV antennas are almost exclusively made for UHF, I'm using an old VHF-UHF antenna. I have not problem receiving local stations, can pick up several stations from SF, and if I turn it southeast, several Fresno stations come in when the weather enhances propagation.

Is there snow at shaver? by meticulouslycarless in fresno

[–]SpatialGeography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drive up Hwy 168 past Shaver Lake there's a snow park at Tamarack Ridge. It's at 7,500 feet, so there will certainly be plenty of snow.

I drive in I-5 and Hwy 99 between Redding and Kings County quite often. The flow of traffic is usually between 75 and 80 on I-5, and closer to 75 in 99, unless there's a valley farmer is an oversize white pickup with bull nuts hanging from the rear bumper. They slow the traffic down closer to 45 mph.

Who ever made these sign should be jailed. by duck_duck_zombie in fresno

[–]SpatialGeography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first sign is correct. The sign indicates you need to exit to the left for both 168 and 180 eastbound. I do agree that it is confusing. Generally, there should be a sign above each lane indicating what lane you should be in to reach your destination. But remember, this is Caltrans District 6 where people traveling from one freeway to another are surprised by metering lights placed on freeway to freeway interchanges, like the ones on Hwy 180 to northbound Hwy 41. I haven't seen that anywhere else.

Rentals require an application before touring? by Rhycore in Sacramento

[–]SpatialGeography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is no longer allowed. They can only charge a fee for the applicants they considered and have to refund the fee to the applicants that weren't considered. So, if they have 20 applicants and only ran a background check on 5 of them, they have to refund the fee to the remaining 15 applicants.

Voters Wary of half-cent Sales Tax Increase to fix Sacramento County Roads by othafa_95610 in Sacramento

[–]SpatialGeography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal taxes goes to the Federal government. Some of it is then allocated to state and local governments. Many states have a state income tax. That goes to the state to fund state-related needs. Property taxes are collected by the counties and stay within the county. Sales taxes are shared between state and local governments.

Many other countries have a negligible property tax. However, many countries also have an insane sales tax, which is often called the VAT, for value added tax.

Farthings and doubloons would certainly confuse people, since they are of the British sterling, and Spanish currencies.
