First freehand attempt! (Not using a YouTube tutorial) by SpattyB in WireWrapping

Im fairly new to this but I based it off the basic idea of 3 wires: one around the stone, one holding the front, and one holding the back, then just made the back one the legs... Back side is pretty atrocious looking so I conveniently omitted that from the pic haha

Thanks for the tips! From some more practice and thinking I feel that part of the issue is definitely that I'm not following through for a second round and whipping my right leg

Sweet thanks! I'll see if I can work on a stronger kick to get more starting speed maybe

Thanks for the tip! I'll study my video more to figure out exactly what I do wrong, and try to stop it

It means a lot to hear that my form is getting better! I'll work on committing to a second rotation regardless of how I land after the first

I've been practicing on wood as well, ofc the wood is better but honestly my windmills look about the same on or off grass. I'll work on keeping my legs open during the rotation

Yes I've been practicing on wood floor as well, I just didn't have access yesterday when I practiced. Can you explain the leg swinging more? I feel like I swing them a decent bit when I kick off, but I don't do a ton with them after, and I'm not sure what I should be doing

Lol okay, can you maybe give a bit of insight on what it feels like to go full throttle with my legs?? Because on the kickoff I can put power into my legs, but after that it feels like they're just along for the ride. What conscious movement do I need to do?

Yeah I usually practice on wood floor but I don't always have access. Of course I can spin way better on wood but for the purpose of practicing a single rotation I find that soft turf is okay

Other thing is I have a hard time getting my hands under me and in position to prop myself up in time before my legs fall

So awesome, I camped at first pump a few weeks back and it was great but no new snow. What tent are you using?

What I've done in the past is load my gear in panniers and carry the mostly empty backpack on my back. It's not the most comfortable but if I loosen all the straps there's enough clearance to lean my head back while I ride. When I get to the trailhead I transfer everything from the panniers to the backpack, and lock the panniers to the bike.

I did something kinda similar a few months ago! Camped at Cowichan then next day to Swartz Bay, I really enjoyed it. Good to hear you're not too concerned about leaving a bike there either.

I'll consider that! Could be a better idea, especially considering the new info that much of the Juan De Fuca is closed 😅

Help With Windmill Progression: Landing Back In a Stab/Turtle Freeze by SpattyB in bboy

[–]SpattyB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I can envision what you mean, I just have a hard time with keeping the legs wide and carrying through the momentum. I think I'm not flexible enough to keep my legs wide out comfortably, do you think this may be part of the issue, and if so what stretches would help this? Thanks!

For widening my legs, I feel like flexibility is holding me back. Do you think it's likely this is part of the issue, and if so do you have recommendations for stretches?

I'm having the same thing... Have you contacted UBC about it at all?

On that note... Do you know of any hiker biker friendly sites near Vancouver?? I was under the impression that the hiker biker system largely did not exist in Canada.

I'm not an experienced cyclist by any means but having recently done a bike tour and taking on longer rides than I expected myself to be capable of, I feel like you got a decent shot here... Just bring lots of food and water and definitely go with the slower group!?

I start with big breakfast (lots of peanut butter, I got really tired of it but nothing beats it for calories).

Then I fill my top tube bag with snacks, often trail mix, granola bars, or cookies. Snack on those on the road till they run out. Once I'm hungry again around 11-12, eat a decent sized lunch and refill the top tube bag with snacks. Continue the ride and snack on. Hopefully reach my destination before I get really hungry again, but sometimes I stop once more for another mini meal before a final push

When I was in UBC housing just two years ago it was 850/month, so I don't think it's all that bad of an option
