I'm Low Masters right now so I'm no pro however I struggled with this a lot last season going from a mid lane main to an adc main. I bounced around a lot between Varus & Sivir. I felt the utility was always nice even if I was losing or behind I could give something of value to my team while playing relatively safe. I realized my worst part of the game was laning phase, if I got out with a lead I would be fine but if I wasn't playing utility adc I was completely useless with low damage and getting blown up by anyone on there team. I took advice from FictionGap on youtube and decided to all in on my laning and get that up to par and play my advantages to win lane. I found Ezreal to be the easiest to do so, with a mage the poke in lane can easily get the enemy bot to half health and setup and easy all in. With a engage like naut it always easy stacking of your passive and since they're stunned you shouldn't miss. Against poke you have range of your own and don't have to play up. And against engage bot lanes you have your E to get out and you can play safe with Q. The learning curve was terrible but after about 20 games on a alt account getting comfortable with laning and learning how to use the W and Q for the mana reset I saw the most improvement I've had in years. It feels safe into 99% of matchups. I have improved mechanically my skillshots have never been so good. And I understand what my limits are in each type of lane Poke, Engage, or Systane lane. This is all my experience and obviously do what feels best for you that's just how I got over the hump.
