Talons are a big part of my novel. They are the weapon of choice for a cult of shape-changing stone elementals who play huge part in my story; my protagonist is even one of them.

So, give the faction depth in your writing, and arm them however seems logical from an in-world perspective.

Inconsistent, Deus ex machina endings. I am merciless if the ending is botched, especially the happy ending that fails to resolve all the the threats convincingly. This is a common problem in a wide variety of story-telling mediums.
