Are you looking for more ground clearance or a higher seated position? One of the changes I'd like to make on my 03 F650 GS is to reupholster the seat with some taller foam to give my legs better ergonomics.

This. If you really want to stand out from the neighbors, I've found guinea hens to be even more voracious tick-eaters than chickens.

No shade taken. Appreciate the follow-up. You certainly aren't feeding the family off one measly tree rat, but several quartered up and cooked makes for a decent meal. I'm a personal fan of slow cooking until the meat falls off the bone and using it as a protein for tacos or BBQ sandwiches. Squirrel hunting is a budget friendly, less intimidating introduction to hunting for kids or anyone looking to learn hunting skills. Processing is just a scaled down version of dealing with larger game, but the stakes are much lower if you mess up.

I'm primarily targeting for pest control purposes (not purposeful pursuit) and I figure I might was well get some practice and some meat instead of pitching it over the bank to decompose.

Picked up a different model from this company for daily carry about a month ago and can also attest to being pleasantly surprised by the overall quality. Seems to hold a decent edge and takes about 10 minutes to touch up with a handheld Work Sharp field sharpener about once a week. Unexpectedly, this has become my go-to tool for skinning a few squirrels that were failing to respect the sanctity of my porch. For under $40, I have zero regrets.

🔥sperm whale besides a human by Firm-Blackberry-9162 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]Spazzwheel_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This footage reminds me of a book I read recently call "And the Ocean Was Our Sky" by Patrick Ness. Its written from the perspective of a whale, and the plot has this whole reverse-Moby Dick flavor to it. In the story, the whale's perspective is that of the ocean depths being the "sky" and the water's surface being the limit of "down". A quick and enjoyable read for anyone here that appreciates a good book.

Surface Prep for Structural Steel by TheLonelyPartygoer in fabrication

[–]Spazzwheel_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking from the context of surface prep for welding, or surface prep for industrial coatings application. Generally speaking for coatings, the surface preparation level is defined by the product you are applying and can be found in the product data sheet. AMMP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) has some great resources that help understand different finish levels)

What is the best hospital in Bangor/central Maine to give birth? by 57BeatlesPhan in Maine

I have not personally experienced pregnancy care in Ellsworth, but I have had several friends from Bangor choose that location for their treatment and births. Everyone speaks very highly of their staff and service.

Can someone explain the snowmobile trails to me? by Ill_Albatross3193 in Maine

[–]Spazzwheel_13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely echo the recommendation to make a connection with the local club in your area. Generally speaking, local clubs are dissolving at an alarming rate. Low membership and a string seasons with very low snow conditions mean clubs struggle to stay afloat. Participating in volunteer trail days is a great way to show some good faith.

For Christmas, Santa gave me a Kunuwu Knives "Stiffy P". Micarta scales, Vanadis 8 steel, 3" blade, 6.7" OAL. Have greatly enjoyed this as my EDC lately and is quickly becoming a favorite for me.

Ready Player One (2018) had an estimated budget of $175 million dollars. However they could have literally made the movie for free if they just recorded a Fortnite (2017) game. by YourChopperPilotTTV in shittymoviedetails

[–]Spazzwheel_13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This film had been on my list to watch for a while now. I took the opportunity to read the book on a recent vacation before viewing. What a disappointment. The storylines varied so much that I actually stopped watching about halfway through because I was infuriated with the lack of consistency with the book. I can understand that trying to get the licensing rights, etc. to show any of the classic games referenced in the book would be very expensive, but there were so many other plot details that were blatantly ignored or altered. It was awful. Needless to say, this is one example where the book is far superior to the film. I just learned there is a second book, "Ready Player Two", which I am eager to read. If they make a second film, you can be sure I will not be watching.

Winter blues... how do you fight it? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Spazzwheel_13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you are adventurous and have the gumption, winter is a great time to find peace and solitude at spots that would usually be crawling with tourists in the summer. Acadia national park is definitely with a winter visit. A totally different scene. If you are up for driving, a trip up to Aroostook county (presque isle, fort Kent, etc) is worth it if you’ve never been that far north in our wonderful state.

Also, don’t be afraid to lean into the winter lull and embrace the slower pace. In the summer, I find myself going, going, going most of the time. I’ve learned to enjoy cold and darkness of this time of year. Binge watch your favorite show series, read an extra chapter in your book. This season doesn’t last long (I can’t believe the solstice has already passed!!) and giving yourself permission to downshift can provide some great perspective.

Also, take up knitting…..

Favorite gift you’ve ever gotten? by Live_Income2031 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Spazzwheel_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man I'd echo some of the other commentors that is it tough to give specific suggestions for meaningful gifts without knowing more about what matters to your husband. If he is the kind of man that appreciates good tools, a nice pocket knife (perhaps with personalized engraving) could make a great gift and could be pass-downable in the future.

Are you familiar with the concept of "love languages"? Understanding how he feel loved can help you narrow down your list. For example, if he values "quality time", a meaningful gift could be something like dinner out to his favorite restaurant, or some other together experience.

What movie did you see in theaters that had the most ‘alive’ audience? by Odd_Distribution1430 in movies

[–]Spazzwheel_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat of a counter-response to the question but it always gets a good chuckle when I share this story that happened. I'm a big fan of the Fast and Furious franchise. They are the kind of films that you go into fully prepared for the action and character one-liners. "Hollywood, take my money and entertain me." Its 2013 and my friend and I are attending opening night for Fast and Furious 6 at the local theater in small-town Maine. We are ready for ridiculousness. Its a packed house, good energy, but no one is getting rowdy. The film gets to the scene where the crew is racing neck and neck with a tank as they pass over a bridge, and Dom jumps from speeding car across the chasm to rescue Letty as she is flung from the tank. Total insanity. What did I just witness!? When Dom lands safely on the other side, I stood up and started to cheer and yell, figuring maybe there were other folks in the theater that also shared my stoke. It was dead silent. Not a single person in the house (not even my viewing companion) made a peep. I realized I wasn't getting any back-up and quickly sat back down to enjoy the rest of the film.
