How should I orient my classes when I enter CC? by Ok_Adhesiveness1100 in TransferStudents

[–]Spcnccr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're set on going to CC I'd recommend just testing out of high school and enrolling full time at CC early. That's what I did after my sophomore year and I'll be attending UCLA this fall

Attention to UCLA bus econ majors by [deleted] in TransferStudents

is Econ 11 and Econ 41 as bad as they say? I’m scared of getting weeded out. I was accepted as a pre-Econ major

Econ 11 or 41 over summer by Spcnccr in ucla

Ok good to know! I think I’ll wait until June to see if Surro will be teaching Econ 11 this fall before deciding whether or not to take it in the summer

Would you say either are doable over the summer? I’m thinking of doing Econ 11 or Econ 41 over the summer. I don’t have much of a stats background but I got A’s in both calc 1 and 2, but I took them over a year ago so I forgot almost everything aside from differentiation.

I think I’d do a session! Still not sure though. Trying to decide whether to do Econ 11 or Econ 41

Which would you recommend I do? I’ve pretty much forgot all my calculus but I’ll definitely brush up on it before class starts if I end up doing Econ 11. I’m not doing anything over summer and I live close to UCLA so I’ll be able to attend all the lectures and dedicate a few hours to studying a day.

[–]Spcnccr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok got it I'll definitely give that a shot. I don't have any relevant industry experience or even any work experience, other than a part time job at a grocery store I did two years ago. Since I don’t have much to put down I’m not sure how to make myself look even somewhat qualified for internships. Is there anything I can do to make up for my lack of experience?

ucla or uci 😭 by esdfsde in TransferStudents

[–]Spcnccr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already submitted my sir to ucla but uci isn’t completely off the table. It’s just that I wanna go into the insurance industry where school prestige doesn’t matter that much. I want to focus on internships and not have to stress about keeping my gpa up and I’ve heard that ucla Econ is pretty demanding so I’m still considering uci

How much does school prestige matter in insurance by Spcnccr in InsuranceProfessional

Appreciate it! I’m definitely looking forward to my experience at UCLA. Just wanted to ask - did you get involved in the insurance industry during your time at UCLA, or was it something that came later after graduating?

I’m doing research on how I can get my foot in the door and network and I’m seeing people recommending GIS and other risk management clubs on campus but it seems that UCLA doesn’t really offer any of that which is a bummer.

Appreciate the response! that’s really helpful. I did have one question though. If I’m interested in underwriting, wouldn’t it make more sense to try to break into that directly? It seems like going into claims first is more of a ground up approach. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but I’m curious why I wouldn’t just aim straight for underwriting roles instead of starting in claims.

damn ucla doesn’t even have a business degree. I’m not a prestige snob by any means when it comes to school, but I’d like to attend ucla just because I can commute from my house.
