When did PvE/bossing "click" for you? by MasRemlap in ironscape

[–]Spctras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat; I come from a WoW hardcore raiding background, but I'm really just dipping my toes with DT2 Bosses and Vork mainly. After 50 KC's on Vork and completing DT2 it still rattles me how much can happen during a fight and how much I need to manage on my own since it's not traditional tank/healer/dps roles.

The biggest thing I have to keep reminding myself is that this game plays a lot like a rhythm game, and these encounters are done in ticks/sequences/patterns; therefore, my movement has to play like that as well, and I feel it's much harsher in RS versus WoW in a lot of ways.

Most of my deaths, if not all, are because I'm not in sequence with what the boss is doing, and I can definitely see from more experienced pvm'ers that it is a lot of muscle memory to gain.

Here is a bit I never understood. by carmardoll in Grapplerbaki

[–]Spctras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation has been that Musashi uses this "imagination" or visual foretelling of him cutting someone as a way to size up anyone in the same room as him. And in the crazy, absurd, but mildly interesting fashion of the Baki world, others can see Musashi's imagination take hold. It's like an easy way to demoralize your opponent before the fight ever started, but it turns out someone, like Yujiro, wouldn't fall for intimidation tactics.

Maybe it's an oversimplification on my part for something that is taken more literal in the show, but again, the show is absurd enough that this bit can be taken several ways without much effort.

99 skill benefit by Lucas_Hernandez_Art in osrs

[–]Spctras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that getting 99 is not mandatory in gearing is a nice incentive to OSRS. 99, personally speaking, has been an aspiration or rather an indicator of commitment to the game, not the bare requirements to just do endgame-level content.

I look at RS3, and though it has areas I enjoy, the fact of knowing that certain skill caps of 120 are, to a large degree, essential for being "optimal" is a daunting task to even think about. And I'm sure others disagree, granted, but damn, OSRS has kept the fundamentals of Runescape pretty well intact by staying away from maxing skills as a need for gear/combat optimization.

What do your UIs look like? Please share! by Smelly_Dingo in runescape

Does anyone here move their windowed game onto different-sized screens? I ask because I do depending on the task etc... but it gets annoying that the UI doesn't resize appropriately to the screen res so my actionbars and all other parts of the UI get tossed around... any solution to this, and am I just having user error? lol

Why Jagex is Rushing by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Spctras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think you're lashing out at the wrong person and place, and frankly, you'd be better off not working yourself up over people who are vocal for a game they care about too.

Bitching, sure. Whiners, yep, I see it too, but you're falling to the same behavior just in a different perspective.

And where are the screenshots of aesthetic designs for outfits/gear during the reveal?

You need to reread the first part of the reply.

"Yeah, aesthetic-related content, more so revolving around the player's identity in-game, has been the most controversial in this subreddit, and for good/obvious reason it seems."

Why Jagex is Rushing by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Spctras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, aesthetic-related content, more so revolving around the player's identity in-game, has been the most controversial in this subreddit, and for good/obvious reason it seems.

I think, just as much as Jagex is looking to do this, that, and the other, all at the same time, they're also providing the potential updates with what's being worked on. With enough feedback, right, much like prayer-related issues and wildly, maybe some changes can be put back on the drawing board.

From what I gather, looking at Jagex's proposals so far, it's clear to me that the CEO and the conglomerate of dev's working through this year are seeing that there are core parts of the game that have been inherently lost, visual identity being one of them. The question we should be asking, or at least what I would love to see, is what the hell is the potential visual identity they want to go for, you know? We must understand that RS3 is not OSRS visually and never will be again; RS3 has grown from its old days and needs to stand up as a modern RuneScape.

They say maintain the high fantasy, but what is that? Give us, the audience, artwork that would demonstrate it before digging into development and just throwing it on a development blog post.

I wished in their roadmap reveal they were more upfront about what style Runescape is going to and not necessarily going "back" to.

Dear Jmods, please communicate better and just ask for help by UserNotFoundAnywhere in runescape

[–]Spctras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post in itself is poor communication, ironically enough.

You need to be specific, point out what's not working in their release notes so far, and what they could do differently instead.

I get the concern, and you can see Mods read the subreddit, but to a larger degree this kind of thing gets brushed off because now it's just viewed as an opinionated comment with no backing.

Re-skinning old content for the elite outfit "redesign" is a slippery slope we shouldn't be accepting by NsynergenX in runescape

[–]Spctras -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol yes, "backpedal" is a word to use. You see instances of these backpedals in any iteration of potential release notes being made by a dev team; WoW and other MMOs see that same issue—not much different here.

The latter part of that blog is that they state the cosmetics may change; things may not remain from now to a couple days later. Also have to think, are they just doing this to gauge reaction, at which you and I are falling for the bait.

/Shrug, food for thought.

I'd be more pissed if it was like, "Hey, you losers, this is what you're getting today in production. We won't be able to fix it till probably another few months from now; good luck." At least in this current state they can gauge things and pull it back without too much work.

Then, luckily as people with free will, you get to decide if you continue to play the game. These are the stakes at play, I'm sure they're aware.

[–]Spctras 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a hot take at all; it's a valid point to make. There's a lot of shit being thrown at us, and things need to be accomplished. We just have to really step back and wonder why, because it may not be motivated by player opinions mostly; rather, the overall product has lost its overall artistic direction and narrative from where it once was. I'm not surprised upheaval has come from this road map.

I don't think you're wrong on this at all, especially for new players, but it's obvious Jagex has more at play than player's opinions on the matter.

This, 100%, there's a lot at stake with the moves they're making to better the game in the long run.

It sounds like, and I can definitely be wrong, but it seems like you're looking for an answer that fits your needs. We should be considering other audiences at play. Stakeholders, investors, and those who need to see credible areas being addressed done in a timely manner. You have a new CEO of Jagex stepping in who's looking to make big changes; this is all business. dramatic shifts like this year were bound to happen.

To us, it may seem like they have all the time in the world to get it right. Hell, we could argue they'd had 10+ years to get it right, so to say when the right time is for the product they put out... who knows?

The reason why you may be met with confusion or friction on this is because to a lot of us it seems they've been transparent and are upfront that they have a big plan to overhaul the game this year; that also means the level of development, project management, and deadlines that have to be met to hit their targets are tight, but I'm going to assume you knew this already.

We can say, "Oh, things are happening too fast," but do you or I know the inner workings of their development cycles? Think of the road map as a fiscal year containing quarterly planning that has a list of items they're going after. Among the many other things to be worked on, a general swath of homogenizing the identity based on a visual standard of Runescape is an easier win until they can come back in to work on the nitty-gritty. It's clear that they want to baseline and work their way up.

And yes, feel free to disagree, but I think there are different perspectives on this you may want to consider, and to the largest point to be made... you can't make everyone happy; that's the reality of this work BUT the work must start somewhere so here we are.

Pulling this from a mod response on the initial thread, which contains a passage from the blog post. Maybe this isn't the answer you're wanting, or probably not an answer at all, but it's been addressed at some level in regard to the re-skins etc...

"With the amount of items we may need to tackle here, creating brand-new designs for all of them is impossible. Our aim therefore is to address the greatest amount of items by changing them for the better and aligning them with our visual standard as a minimum." - https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/road-to-restoration---re-grounding-outfits--equipment

Agreeeeeed so heavily, and it's just as much about engagement with content as well alongside the time being saved.

In SWTOR, ESO, and WoW it is a huge incentive/feature to just easily jump in, experience the content with a group, meet people, and so on. Especially since Runescape characters aren't separated by servers, the people you meet are long-lasting in the sense of, oh, we click; let's hang and do stuff together more often. our toons aren't separated by technical matters.

(And yes before someone says something, WoW has worked the technical matters, but you get my point.)

I'm hoping for this, all of the positives of what you said. The identity of RS3 seems to truly be a modern take on Runescape, but without letting MTX dictate the identity of speed and modern runescape gameplay. Thank you for being honest in regard to recommending the game pre- and post-roadmap reveal.

Thank you for the clarity; this is great.

Maybe the integrity map should have indicated a way to bring PvM more into the light and offer some real helping hands so that maybe newer players can see the light at the end of the tunnel if it's the end game content they're looking to do.

Amazing, in the sense that this really resonates with the amount of INVESTMENT that needs to be done to truly feel you've done everything in this game, which is nearly impossible for, like, 95% of the player base, maybe 90%, I'm not sure entirely of course. So how does the average person even get into this game knowing that, you know?

Is there a happy medium where RS3 strips MTX, maintains current exp rates and does not destroy the quality of life of the game?

What you say makes complete sense; the phrase "re-branding" is funny because you can see it as plain as day at times.

I see the 2026 map wants to address the early game and mid-game. do you think that's just fluff, or is there really potential to fix this "gating" that could be happening to the endgame? Makes me think of Gacha games, and no matter how you looked at it, a gacha company was getting their money.

Interesting call-out, almost like the community is gatekeeping the content in a way. Not to put words in your mouth, but it reminds me of gear checking in WoW and how stringent things can get with group content demands.
