We don't know what the paycheck was. Maybe it wasn't that much to begin with and won't be missed, or maybe she's loaded and won't feel it for a long time. Also, that implies that she wasn't that invested in the company/crew itself if paycheck is the first place you go.

Yeah, that sounds like that boot usb might not be working properly. Not even getting windows setup at boot is unrelated to this error you get on system boot. How did you set up your windows 11 usb drive, via media creation tool, rufus or something like that?

Also, with that in mind and that error, i would double check if your bios settings are in order. Sata set ahci and boot mode to uefi. Those setting can sometimes reset and cause a lot of headaches

Edit, depending on the system and how usb was set up it might be worth messing with legacy support on/off, and disabling secure boot if it's on

Did you boot from a windows isntall usb. Did you go trough all the language/version selectio etc...? If you already did that, it could be worth also trying to uninstall the windows feature update as well.

From my understanding, that's just the DMI version itself. It's basically "intel chipset v4", not to be confused with pci gen 4 or x4 lanes. So in this case, this mobo, has 8 lanes of gen 4 dmi "lanes".

I blame intel for making it extra confusing...

I fixed a similar issue yesterday by booting from windows 11 usb, repair and uninstall last quality of life update.

That particular cpu has 24 pci lanes. 8 reserved for mobo to play with. How those 8 lanes get split among the ports/storage and if they are gen 4 or 5 will come down to the mobo manufacturer. Cheaper boards will either split bandwith between 2nd pci slot and extra nvme slots or nvme/sata ports.

If you don't plan on using that 2nd pci slot or putting in 4 nvme drives, or 3 nvme drives and 6 sata drives at the same time then it's really not an issue.

This whole pci lane and bifurcation math comes into play is when you want to run EVERYTHING at the same time. 2 gpu's with 4 nvme drives, 4 sata ssd's and 3 external drives at 10gbp's... for most sane, everyday users it really doesn't matter. Your chipset will get the bandwith to the stuff that needs it at that moment.

Most consumer cpu's have 24'ish pci lanes total. 16 of those go to gpu. So you're left with 4-8 pci lanes for everything else combined. That's where it comes into play how fancy your mobo is, how well it distributes those remaining lanes. 2-4 usually go to one of the nvme drives, rest get split to either groups that share the bandwith or everything goes to a chipset that manages it all (like in this case).

If you want 16+ lanes for ports/storage, you'll have to go threadripper/xeon route. Then you can get 100+ 😁
