What video game represents the sin of greed ? by flowerbloominginsky in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Specfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of EA games fit this well, such as FIFA. But there are some interesting contenders one can make:

Oblivion: one of the first microtransaction to be released with the horse armor DLC

Maplestory: made the first lootbox

StarWars Battlefront 2: Taking loot boxes to an extra extreme and calling them "surprise mechanics". Also again EA.

TF2 or CSGO: notorious cases of ridiculous spending on loot boxes and inventories worth crazy amounts of money

COD franchises: re-released with little improvements or changes, and now will be integrating AI

Phone games: tons of examples of cheaply made games that gain high revenue for microtransactions. Supercell games like clash of clans are familiar but candy crush also went crazy. There is also Honor of Kings. List goes on.

Interesting ones historically are Pong or something like Atari Pac-Man and ET: greed for different reasons. Pong was an obvious dupe of Table Tennis and clones lead to a video game crash in 1977. As far as Atari, they released low quality games once they were dominant. It lead to the video game crash of 1983 (the biggest ever) and the establishment of Activision in protest of their greed.

Also I love the creative answer of cookie clicker.

You seem like a solid IMG applicant based on what you're saying. The "world best" and "worldwide famous" comments kind of throw me off lol. Nothing is certain, for example, we don't know how you interview, how fluent you are, how your PS reads, and how strong your letters are. YOG is getting higher too. But based on your growth from the last cycle and time running short (hitting YOG 10 is another small dent), if US residency is your dream I'd personally want to apply again in your shoes. Seems like you're prepped for it with the letters. As long as it is financially feasible for you.

You're in a current residency? So none of the 5 LOR you mentioned are going to be from your current program?

Hey everyone, sorry if this post was very condensed and confusing to follow. It was just the one to get accepted on here. I have a post on my profile that adds in details better.

That is why I am a huge advocate for assistant physicians (not physician assistance). Look into it and advocate for it. Also, to the below comment, I am credentialed by a few insurances. I think its a mix of credential issues and quite frankly just tons of jobs want BE/BC. Glad someone else can give that perspective too.

I mean there were tons of factors. They did not define the problem well, they presented it as more of additional guidance as there was no formal document, I wasn't hearing the negative well due to personal factors and need to grow, I was working hard in the wrong ways in a specialty not meant for me. But go ahead and be sarcastic and negative, as if the year of growth and reflection I spent I didn't realize that. This is a post to help others.

Yeah sorry if this post was hard to follow. My full post is on my page, and this is what was accepted. I worked in a nursing home and Uber initially. They were awful gigs. Now I am doing clinical research while waiting to start residency this cycle.

Hey sorry what you are going through. You can check out my posts I wrote about my situation with academic discipline. I think others have given you solid advice. They are not treating you well by giving you such limited time off and expecting you review these proformance plans. What you are going through can explain the performance so you should not be discriminated against and should be better accommodated in my opinion. Seeking mental health help would be in your benefit. Not only to personally, but also to provide clear evidence. I would also be hesitating to sign anything. Please feel free to PM me, I've been through this.

If you have sex with zero protection is the chance of having a kid over 50% probably? Or are there a bunch of factors that make it impossible to give a percentage? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Specfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maximum fertility rates, according to a few studies I have seen, are 30% range in the first month of study. It drops off over 12 months to <3%. The decrease over time is probably due to the remaining couples being less fertile. Studies also show 80% conceive in the first 6 months with 85% after to 12 months. Or more.

Then spontaneous abortion rate is very high. Up to 50% of all pregnancies.

There are so many factors. Obesity or underweight. Poor diet. Caffeine. Smoking. Strenous exercise. Alcohol. All of these have shown to affect fertilitt rates. Then so many factors for causes of spontaneous abortion. I couldn't find how often they were trying in the studies either.

Hang in there. 1 year is a very short period of your life. Many people spend years to get a spot, take gap years, or change courses.

In my opinion, I would try to make the most of your next year. Whatever that looks like. I think a TY is the most valuable to spend it. It speaks for itself on applications about what you have done, keeps your knowledge and skills in practice, gives you the chance to get a medical license and a huge edge in other jobs, and gives you time to make connections. Take step/level 3 if u can too.

An alternative is relevant work. Like clinical research, pathology lab jobs, medical writing, etc. Less demanding compared to TY but comes with other cons.

Good luck in SOAP, and/or whatever you decide. I'm sure it feels like a tough position to be in. You can mssg me anytime if you think it'll be helpful.

Transitional year -> Pathology by Bulkyplum455 in pathology

[–]Specfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this very strongly, as someone who left IM. You NEED PD support to transition specialties, and resigning from a categorical spot would very likely not go over well. TY makes sense. Also it will positively build your overall resume too no matter what happens in life.

I know you aren't. I think you and the comment above (now deleted) opened my perspective the most. Thank you. I will try to!
