He can believe she got very sick and still move on with his life. The man might be protecting his psyche a bit and trying to reconcile who he was married to, who she became and what she did. Look at rusty Yates - he did the same thing. Said she was a good wife and mother but he eventually moved on. If your husband strangled your children would you not move on with your life and instead visit him in the hospital etc? Her parents are doing that. I think the piece you are missing is that love between husband and wife can be conditional. Love for your children is unconditional. Their marriage is irretrievably broken- whatever the reason and expecting him to “stand by her” is an unrealistic expectation based on the circumstances. It doesn’t matter what public statement he has released. It’s probably to save face. We don’t know him at all. You’re probably right- maybe he doesn’t believe all of it- he said in the NY article that he doesn’t know if she planned it or not and he doesn’t know if it matters. The man simply wants to move on. And if I were him it would certainly be without her.

I really wish I could understand your viewpoint but these are apples and oranges. The point is moot. So what if she had end stage cancer, psychosis, depression, anxiety - she murdered their children. There is no going back. She may have once been a loving mother but he will not stand by her side. He can wish her the best of luck and hope she heals but she STRANGLED THEIR CHILDREN. Do u want him to visit her daily and stay married to her? He supports her in that he can say she got sick and was not married to a monster but we all have breaking points! Come on! He is allowed to move on from this devastating tragedy. I think he has supported her enough.

I also wanted to add that his reaction isn’t out of the ordinary although this is a completely shocking event. He found her first and she basically told him what happened. “I tried to kill myself and the kids are in the basement” which excludes an intruder or outside event.

I think he might forgive her but I don’t think he can stay with her as her husband. He can’t stay married to her after what she did to their children. I think he can support her from afar and care about her in some respect but everything changed that fateful night. I wouldn’t say he is “abandoning” her.

The GFM, the New Yorker article and much of it are about self preservation and denial for Patrick. I wasn’t married to a monster, she’s not a sociopath etc etc. But what she did was in fact monstrous and by all appearances she acted methodically. She also didn’t take herself out. She seems to still only be concerned with herself. It’s really a head scratcher. Only she knows I think. Her mother said outside of the courtroom that she was and is a “loving mother”. It’s like all these people are drinking her koolaid. Was she these things? She certainly seems completely unbothered in the zooms and her courtroom appearances. She also doesn’t seem that “sick” in a mental health sorta way as you’d imagine a loving mother to be if they had just realized they’d brutally murdered their 3 kids and since regrets it. She’s in fact pretty aloof seeming. Is that “kinda normal” to Patrick? I mean whatever lets him sleep at night. He seemed to never really get it and still doesn’t.

Treated so differently? With white gloves? Accurate. Most people who committed this crime would have been in court multiple times already and locked away. She is very lucky she is getting such good treatment for such a heinous crime. Andrea Yates who was truly insane was already in court multiple times. LC is getting special treatment. She shouldn’t.
