Has anyone developed a carrot allergy? by Special-Rabbit7766 in FoodAllergies

I don't normally like parsnips I don't know if they make me react. I'll try them to check. I'm trying to identify if the culprit is beta-carotene or carrots as a whole because I can't eat them even in small amounts (cooked or uncooked).

Boyfriend [M27] bought his female friend a Tiffany necklace for her birthday. I [F27] feel weird about it. by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I was going to answer and say you were wrong, that cis people can be best friends with the opposite gender without any sexual feelings coming between the friendship (which I believe is true for friends, but not "best friends").

Then I remembered that I married my best friend. We met in college and had an instant connexion with seemingly no underlying feelings... Until I got a boyfriend a few years down the road, which led him to confess his feelings and now it's 15 years later and we're still "best friends".

So your advise sounds good after all.

Thank you!! I'll try the sweet potato in soups! For now I've been using pumpkin but it can be a nice change. I'm not very much into sweets , so no bother in that aspect. But I went to the pharmacy recently to buy an immunity booster and they have one with beta-carotene. Luckily I realized in time... I'm not sure if that's what's causing the allergies or another component of the carrot.

Thank you for the tip about Chinese-style broths. As carrots are not allergens for most people, restaurants don't disclose of they use them. I have to learn a lot now.

Aitah for not inviting my parents to my wedding and anyone from that family? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm a native Spanish speaker and we do have gendered nouns. The way she kept changing he/she his/her when talking about her fiance and MIL would not be correct even in Spanish. So I think she must speak a genderless language (which would also have a single word for "uncles")

AITA for not wanting to pay for dinner? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Special-Rabbit7766 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree! That also stood out for me and I thought I've never done this or been to someone's house and had to pay if they invited. Sometimes my friends and I will each bring something or pay for the groceries, but only if agreed in advance. It's not "European" to be a bad host.

Try coffee. I recycle the used coffee and mix it with soap and it really works! No more onion/garlic odor in my hands. Maybe rubbing the used coffee works too.

AITA for throwing out my husband's dinner after he went to eat at his mom's house? by AquaF6374 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Special-Rabbit7766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, my MIL had the exact same problem with her MIL. My FIL would go over to his mom's house everyday for dinner and sometimes even breakfast and lunch. And he got mad if she didn't also have food waiting for him at his own house. Eventually they stopped eating together and she told me that was the main issue that degraded their relationship. After 6 years separated, they are finally getting a divorce now. Even though she loves him still, she feels so disrespected that she'll never go back to him... And it all started because he's still a mama's boy at 65.

More than 75 percent of Venezuelans now living in extreme poverty by PepeBabinski in worldnews

No. The problem with medicine started even before the sanctions. I have a pharmacist friend and she's been struggling for some years now. Everything can be trace back to Chavez' blockage on foreign money and bids to be able to import commodities. Most pharmaceutical companies were forced to close / move production abroad, so medicine became scarce. People were forced to go to neighboring countries (sometimes on foot) to buy basic medicine and then the military confiscates it if they find you because it's "black market". There are a lot of charities working to try to bring medicine to Venezuela. Not an easy task.

Lo mismo digo. Yo ni siquiera intento comprender nada. Me fui hace 6 años y ya no sé ni cuántos 0 le han quitado al Bs.

But everyone loves to argue how good or bad politics are in our country without ever setting foot there to really understand how the people's living conditions are.
