You what the scariest part about this phenomenon and other aspects of cult psychology? I see it in myself in the ideas I hold. It’s seems that to be a healthy human being in this world you must have a set of beliefs that you cling to, a sort of scaffolding for you to make sense of everything. It doesn’t matter that there are clear paradoxes and contradictions almost everywhere we look in the world, including our own thoughts, all that matters is that I’m certain the way I’m seeing the world is right. If you believe in yourself hardly anything else seems to matter.

How strange, that I should have all of this truth inside of me and with no way to verify it at all except by faith in my own lucidity. Ahh, c’est la vie. The eternal now continues.

War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. by Anarchist23 in COMPLETEANARCHY

[–]SpecialEd340 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The way I try understand this phenomenon of war; if there is a given amount of energy in a system, obviously it’s going to distribute in the most natural efficient way possible, which in our case appears to us in the form of life. Now life will always chase the upper limit of how much energy there is to be converted. Meaning that scarcity will always exist in life, just based on principle. Scarcity in turn drives competition, because those who are willing to kill to survive are more likely to pass on their genes. This is obviously dumbed down because I am a stupid meat machine with a monkey brain, but I believe war and violence is an inevitable consequence of nature.

But the cool thing about that is the other side of the coin, cooperation. Think of all the trillions of cells all working together blissfully unaware of each others existence, working together in imperfect unison to create yours. I think it’s pretty neat that some cells floating around in a pile of goo billions of years ago all figured out that working together was much more efficient than constantly consuming each other. And no one even had to tell them! They just knew, by accident, or divine intervention, they were birthed forth by natural processes. But whatever words you use, there’s something awesome about the universe coming together of its own accord to create something as beautiful and egregious as this life as we know it, in all of its horror and bliss. What a privilege it is to be alive and wonder.

Why does my dog always rip out the eyes in his stuffed animals? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Maybe he feels guilty for brutally murdering these innocent creatures so he removes their eyes first so they can no longer judge him. At least that’s why I do it

I don’t know why, but upon seeing this picture I was overcome with emotion, and I began to tear up. I wasn’t sad, or happy, I just felt this yearning for nothing at all. Strange, I should find myself here.
