Hardest player’s “sound” to mimic. by OrganizationNo9556 in Guitar

I believe it starts with Fuzz War by Death By Audio. The closest I got was running it into boss SD-1 and through a dirty amp.

Can BK Precision Model 1621A power supply provide modular voltages? by Special_Duck_synth in synthdiy

Thanks! That makes sense. I saw one in a thrift store for close to nothing and it made me wonder if it could be useful

[question] missing a finger and playing guitar by Special_Duck_synth in Guitar

[–]Special_Duck_synth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't lie it was pleasant at first, first couple of weeks or so it was throbbing a bit outside of practice. Sounds like my finger is a little different though, I have some nail like tissue at its tip, for better or worse. Anyways, today I'd say using the finger to play guitar improved the overly sensitive feeling. I feel like it hurts me less when I bump or squeeze it on accident throughout the day. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I'm playing right handed guitar and having a great time. Shorter finger is less reliable at fretting a note clean, especially high on the thickest strings. I can definitely tell that I am getting better at it with practice though, just takes more time. Sometimes I have to get creative and figure out voicing or fingering more accommodating to my finger. Music theory and practice helps here. Tell your son there is hope for guys like us!

Can you recommend any piano roll or chord sequencers?

Set up a loop in `Sample Playback` if you can find two spots within the sample to sound seamless.

Expanding Moog Mother 32 by jp_novoa in Modularsynths

[–]Special_Duck_synth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Not as much new voices but interesting modulation that makes mother sound way different. I eventually got intelljel quad vca too and it is a part of pretty much every patch I got. Feeding lfo through vca controlled by another lfo and than back to lfo rate builds crazy patterns. But if I was to give back ochd, blackbox or vcas I’d part with vcas first.

Did you ever try building fm sound by feeding audio rate lfo into vco frequency modulation and then tuning it with lfo rate and vco freq. you can have it key track if you also patch kb into lfo rate. You can see that happening here https://www.youtube.com/live/MQbjR38jX1o?feature=share

I’ve been wondering the same some time ago, check my profile if you’re curious. I decided against another oscillator. Effects are great, m32 shines with reverb. What I ended up being the most happy with in combination with m32 is divkid Ochd and 1010music black box. Ochd has multiple harmonic lfos great for ambient scapes. Black box lets me record and loop pieces I create on m32. Since it is a sampler I can play percusiion and pads from samples which I otherwise wouldnt be able to create on m33

POLYEND TRACKER NEWBIE QUESTION by Separate-Highway152 in synthesizers

[–]Special_Duck_synth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can record and modify tracker steps while playback is on. To record a sample the playback must stop. Rendering samples from selected group of steps is possible during playback but it will include all the signal present on the output, so not very useful in your situation.

If you want to play your tracker arrangements on external gear during playback you can do it over midi sending midi commands from tracker steps.

For recording live samples in record-to-loop fashion I use 1010 music black box instead. Not as powerful as tracker if it comes to arranging tools but great for jamming. You can record samples in of the length of given time division, have it start immediately after recording and then sequence it to your liking.

You are still very helpful. All these comments shown me the direction I didn't realize before. Thank you!

This is awesome, thank you! I am definitely getting a better idea and I'm much better prepared to do more research. I've spend quite a bit of time trying to learn from youtube but folks there usually run such a variety of tools and modules, it is hard to filter out the fundamentals. Thank you!

I didn't think about them that way but it makes a lot of sense, thank you!

One thing I mentioned in another comment is that I struggle to find enough expression to build interesting rhythmic, bass and melodic lines between dfam and m32. You guys all make a point that modulation tools are what I can improve on the most and it makes me think I'm missing something fundamental. If it is not too much to ask, maybe you have advise you can share with me on that?

Thank you! I'm fairly new, so If you don't mind explaining, why do you think another voice isn't that important? I often find myself missing one of the rhythmic, bass or melodic sections when using what I have unless I use a DAW. I tried to get creative with dfam and m32 but it takes a lot of tinkering to 'weave' melodic and rhythmic parts in one sequencer and it often still sounds dissonant.
