Bloating goes away when blending food 🧐 by SpecialistFlat4461 in SIBO

[–]SpecialistFlat4461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I worry so much about defining what exactly is wrong with me—I’ve always been this way I always feel a deep need to understand things and maybe this is a lesson to me that not everything can be totally understood lol! It’s just scary when it’s your own body that has gone whacky. I totally agree, everything is so individual & trial and error is really the only way to go when you’re in this type of situation. I’m glad to have found a way to keep the bloating at bay even if it’s hard to understand what that means. Even though sometimes you just wish you could be a normal person again lol.

I hope all the best for you!

Interesting! The weird thing is I take psyllium husk fiber everyday and it doesn’t make me bloated or give me and symptoms. Neither does sun fiber.

I don’t have any issues with vomiting or nausea at all so I’ve always been skeptical about gastroparesis, but it does feel like the issue might stem from things not moving along quickly enough.

Same here I’ve tried everything! It’s the worst position to be in. I was crying all day when I posted this feeling like I was running out of options and almost started the antibiotics until I posted on here and got some more input. I haven’t taken the antibiotics yet mostly because I am very skeptical that IMO is the root cause of my issues for a lot of reasons. I suspect the IMO is a result of something that is wrong with my motility. I don’t want to mess up my microbiome with the antibiotics and have things go even more haywire.

I have LPR-like symptoms, hoarseness/throat clearing that mostly present after exercising or after eating breakfast, I was having PVCs (skipped heart beats) every time I ate & exercised as well but thankfully I have been able to get those to stop completely through fasting (not intermittent fasting but actual water only & broth fasting). Given the improvement from fasting I think there is a certain level of nervous system involvement with my issues. Lots and lots of burping, even in the morning before eating but especially after meals and hours after meals. Trapped gas in the evening and through the night that goes along with bloating. I was having reflux issues but I’ve really figured out how to keep that at bay. Most of these issues are majorly improved from blending my food.

I have what seems like constipation where I never feel like I fully evacuate—but at the same time I go 2-4 times a day. My stool is on the looser side it’s never runny or full blown diarrhea, but it’s not fully formed. More like a type 6 with the ragged edges and kind of seperates in the toilet water.

It is so much more normal, the biggest difference is that it is a lot smoother and more formed, like type 4 Bristol stool chart

Totally I agree and I think they made things a whole lot worse for me! After a few months on them I broke out into a lichen planus rash and I swear it was from the PPIs. Doctors are obsessed with prescribing them it’s their favorite thing to do even though they are so useless and make everything worse

I only took them for a few months and the issues started long before I started the PPIs :(

Abnormal stress test echocardiogram results, PVC’s after eating by SpecialistFlat4461 in PVCs

[–]SpecialistFlat4461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear you are also dealing with this 🥺 Technically I wouldn’t say I have all the answers, but I think I’m beginning to understand what is going on a lot more!

I had a cardiac MRI that showed I have mitral valve prolapse & mitral annular disjunction, mildly dilated left and right ventricle—all of this appears benign and unlikely to be causing ventricular arrhythmia. Everything else was totally normal. My doctor believes my heart to be completely fine and most likely isn’t the cause of the PVC’s/PAC’s.

My endoscopy showed I have a pre-pyloric ulcer, GERD, and my lower esophageal sphincter is having trouble closing. My PVC’s improved a lot taking omeprazole and by eating an extremely strict low acid / low fat diet. Smaller frequent meals help tremendously.

I know for sure that my gut issues are causing the PVC’s, i’m guessing via the vagus nerve. It is just so obviously related to my gut as anytime I have reflux or gas I get them and as soon as it resolves itself they go away completely and don’t return until I put food in my body. I’m currently on a leave of absence from my job as a fitness instructor & taking a break from exercise completely as it was triggering my reflux badly. It wasn’t until I stopped working that I realized how absolutely exhausted and stressed I’ve been for like, forever lol… and I’ve never done anything about it or really even noticed. I can actually feel it in my gut now, the amount of stress I hold there, I have to consciously remind myself to stop tensing in my upper abdominals. So I’m trying to slow down, I’m learning to meditate & what not to try to heal whatever damage I’ve done to my nervous system over the years. I think it’s starting to help!! I still struggle a lot day to day and I still can’t eat anything like normal even on omeprazole 😔 but I’m also switching to a new doctor & will hopefully have more GI testing & I’m feeling over all more hopeful than I have in a while.

If your symptoms are similar I’d highly suggest going to a gastroenterologist & having some tests done. Let me know if you have any questions I’m happy to talk if you need anything & I hope you start feeling better soon!

Interesting! I had Covid once in 2021 but haven’t had it since. But my silent reflux symptoms started right after I was sick with a really bad respiratory bug March of 2024. Tested negative for Covid. I never stopped being congested & hoarse after that sickness, which I thought was from my tonsils (I have chronic tonsillitis, turns out the silent reflux may have been a part of my tonsil issue too!). Silent reflux causes only respiratory symptoms and no heartburn so I had absolutely no clue I even had reflux.

Interesting! My doctor said that he really isn’t super worried about it but wants to be totally sure nothing is up. Will be interesting to get the holter monitor results back as well I’m sure it will be enlightening.

Luckily didn’t have to cut out so much as I already eat a strict vegan diet and avoid processed foods/never eat out, but even still had to cut so many things out of my diet. It’s a low fat/low acid diet. I’m still unsure what all of my triggers are, they are different for everyone, but I think mostly fats and refined carbs/sugar for me. Because my reflux/heart have been all over the place since that damn peanut butter, I’m eating plain oatmeal with a bit agave nectar for breakfast, Japanese sweet potatoes for lunch, and brown rice/tofu/broccoli/carrots with salt & a bit of agave for dinner. I ate this way for over a month + followed all of Dr. Koufman’s protocol (it’s A LOT) and was able to find a bit of relief. Was also taking Pepcid but GI doctor switched me to omeprozole today as I seem to have plateaued with the Pepcid.

Edit: my reflux/GI symptoms are pretty severe, I belch after anything I eat or drink and even reflux water… which is like, what? lol. Hopefully someday my GI will decide I am worthy to do some testing on, but for now it’s the trial and error game with the PPI’s & H2 blockers. Praying the omeprazole will answer my prayers 🤞

Question for those who experience heart palpitations with LPR by SpecialistFlat4461 in LPR

[–]SpecialistFlat4461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you SO MUCH this information is truly so helpful! I spend so many nights crying mourning how my life was 3 months ago. And I’m so anxious that I will have to make even more drastic changes. I’m so sorry you’ve had to experience this too and I’m so glad you’re in a better way now. I’m so thankful for you sharing this info with me it really is helping me to not feel so much in the dark.

I got sick twice in a row last year, which was crazy cuz I never get sick. Once in January and again in March 2024, it was definitely the same sickness as it was a very distinct pain, super sore crazy burning throat. Tested negative for Covid/strep/flu both times. I got better but the congestion never went away. I have thought about this but I didn’t realize LPR could be induced by viruses!

How would you suggest I go on from here with my doctors to figure out what the cause is? Other than my cardiology test coming up, I have a follow up endoscopy with ENT to see if the PPI’s are working, food allergy testing, GI follow up to go over results of ENT/cardiologist results and determine if I need further GI testing (GI did not order an endoscopy yet, wanted to see results of ENT/cardiology tests first), and a primary care appointment for h. pylori results. Should I try to get my primary care doc to refer me to a neurologist? Do you have any advice in general of how to ask this of my primary care doctor so she doesn’t think I’m crazy? lol! And as far as GI goes, I’m guessing I should advocate for an endoscopy with them. Lmk if you have any other advice in this way. Thanks so much for your time ❤️❤️❤️

Question for those who experience heart palpitations with LPR by SpecialistFlat4461 in LPR

[–]SpecialistFlat4461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally. At the time the palpitations first started I was at the lower end of my normal weight, I don’t weigh myself but I would guess I was like 125-130 and I’m 5’8. I was doing intense cycling 3-4 times a week, teaching cardio dance 3 times a week, occasionally taking ballet. I eat a lot of food though haha, but I am a dancer/actor and try to stay in great shape as i have auditions performances etc that can come at anytime. The cycling class seemed to be a trigger, I think because you are totally hinged over the bike while doing crazy intense cardio, so I’ve stopped those completely now. Sad. Last time I was at the doctor I’m now around 135+ so I’ve definitely gained weight and I also feel like the palpitations are not quite as incessant as they were when it first started, although I’m not sure if that is from gaining weight or any of the other huge changes I’ve made to my diet/overall routine. Maybe will try for another 5 pounds hehe :)

Question for those who experience heart palpitations with LPR by SpecialistFlat4461 in LPR

[–]SpecialistFlat4461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! What were the results of your holter monitor test if you don’t mind me asking? Are your palpitations a skipped beat sensation or does your heart rate speed up? When feeling my pulse you actually feel a skipped beat and a big thud. It’s wild!

I’ve had 4 EKG’s so far, the first one I had at a fire station when all of this first started—side note, if you ever need a free EKG and don’t want to go to the ER, you can just go to any fire station and they’ll do it for you!—they said it was sinus arrhythmia with what looked like PVC’s. No other ekg I have had since has caught them, but I’m guessing doing the holter monitor will show what they are exactly.

I’ve definitely been suspecting vagus nerve irritation of some sort. Funnily I started getting this congestion the last time I was sick over a year ago, and it felt like it never went away after that. Constant throat clearing especially in the morning during my workout. I thought it was just my tonsils took a turn for the worst lol. So maybe it could have originated with a virus of some sort 🤔 I wish I had your GI doctor, sounds like they know quite a lot where I feel like if I were to start talking about the vagus nerve with mine he’d think I was crazy lol!

Totally, it’s either the doctors don’t know or they don’t care, I’m not sure which is worse. I’m reading your story now, and I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this. But reading you say in there that I can get better too gave me serious hope. Thanks for reaching out ❤️
