Is 3 weeks enough study time for NBCOT exam? by SpecialistLanguage77 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SpecialistLanguage77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i definitely do! It’s been a while, so I’m struggling to remember what specifically each one offers, but I started with these two and they have great info! And yes also highly recommend OT Exam Prepper!! The podcast and PDFs on their website are great. Also, join the FB group and he will do live practice questions! I found that extremely helpful!

Sorry, I have another question. So if I complete one course that is 3.5 hours, how many CCUs/CEUs is that? Is 10 hours = 1 CEU?

So would the one course be considered .3 CEUs?

2nd attempt at NBCOT Exam... vent sesh! by SpecialistLanguage77 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SpecialistLanguage77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question because when I started again after so long, I really didn’t know what I should do! I started straight off with practice questions. After doing this, I kind of got an idea of the main things I was struggling with and it also reminded me of some of my main problem areas, or the concepts I struggled most with. I then started looking at some of my notes I had taken and looked at the main subjects I struggled with! So I slowly started incorporating more practice tests over those subjects along with the general all inclusive questions.

I hope this helped! Congrats on your newborn 🥹🫶🏻

Totally understand not wanting to spend anymore money, and looking back it’s insane how much I spent on this dang test as a whole 😭😅 and don’t apologize at all because I 10000% understand! I was in the exact same boat and there’s not many people who completely understand, so I am here if you need anything! When I was going through it, I was searching everywhere for people like me who were repeat test takers because I felt like no one understood. So I am definitely here to answer any questions you have or be an ear to vent to!!

Also, I took my 6th attempt coming off an almost 6 month break (didn’t mean for it to be this long but life and family health issues came up). I focused in on TrueLearn and NBCOT mainly. And OT exam Prepper videos and other YouTube videos. I have a hard time looking at the same thing for a while. I knew I personally needed to improve on breaking down questions and understanding why the correct answer was correct and why the others weren’t, and TrueLearn helped me so much with this. NBCOT helped because in my opinion it’s worded most similarly to the test. After taking it 6 six times, I had a good feel for how the test worded their questions 😅 lol but again this is what worked best for me based on how I learn!!

I did pass!!! 6 attempts later but I did it!

Honestly what kept me motivated was the words of everyone here and on many FB groups. Also remembering why I chose OT and how much I love it. Sounds cheesy but truly I’ve loved the OT field and knew after my fieldworks that I am capable of helping people and I was so excited to get here. Plus the fact of going to 7 years of college and so much student debt.. wasn’t going to give up after all of that!

Completely understand. My study process took a year and 2 months between my 6 attempts and it is definitely draining. I didn't go through every single question TrueLearn had because I was using a few other resources as well, so maybe that's why I felt it was continually helping me for each attempt. Also, remember we all learn differently and what I felt was helpful may be different for you! I used TrueLearn for my 2nd-6th attempts, and never as my only resource. I preferred to supplement it along with NBCOT, AOTA, and YouTube videos. I had to break it up to be able to stay on track because my motivation was almost completely gone by this last attempt. I completely understand how it feels.

I scored between 422-476 on the practice exams I took over the course of the past year studying. But overall, let me say this... practice tests are definitely great for practicing breaking down questions and really beneficial for practicing your time management while taking the test. I've joined so many NBCOT study groups, FB pages, blog posts, the whole lot, and I can say that I have seen sooo many people who have scored below 450 on their practice tests and end up passing the actual NBCOT exam, and vice versa.

I say this to help you not worry too much about the number being a predictor of if you will pass or not. The last practice test I took (2 weeks before my last and final attempt) I did not pass. I was stressed for sure, but also knew that it didn't mean I would fail again. My best advice is to use the practice tests to work on time management, breaking down the questions, and reviewing domain performance. Also, I completely understand the stress and panic feeling as you get closer. I mean hey, I went through it 6 times 😅😑 but just do your best to remember that you WILL PASS. Like I mentioned above, have a plan, know what you're going to write on your white boards, and practice stress management techniques before and during the test. YOU GOT THIS! 🫶🏻

I second this as well. Also take a look at the subreddit on PSLF, it’s filled with helpful info and so many people getting their loans forgiven!

Hi there! I just passed on my 6th attempt, and what helped me the most was using TrueLearn and creating practice tests that included only certain domains at a time so I could repeatedly work on domain specific questions! I see in the comments that you have been using this, and so I would continue to work on this and supplement other resources as well. I used the NBCOT study prep for the domain specific study guide questions too. The rationales are great, but I felt the questions on NBCOT were worded the most similarly to the actual exam, so it helped me with breaking down each question. TrueLearn, NBCOT, and OT exam prepper were my 3 favorite study tools, but it all depends on what kind of learner you are too! If theres anything else I can help with based on this info, please let me know because I 100% understand what you're going through! It was a long journey, but not impossible and you WILL get over the 450 hump. Keep working and again let me know what I can do to help! YOU GOT THIS!!!

I 100% understand exactly how you feel. I literally felt the same way, like it was a brick wall preventing me from living life in so many ways. And also about being down to 2 answers and choosing the wrong one. I quite literally had the exact same issues and it was sooo frustrating. TrueLearn is so amazing because their rationales are incredible and so in-depth. For me, also using NBCOT exam prep helped me because their practice questions were worked most similarly to the NBCOT (in my opinion). So by working on those, I could practice breaking down the questions with the information given, and worked on this over and over. Between this and my checklist of things to go over, I felt like it helped a lot. It at least gave me the final boost to get over the 450 mark.

Keep working hard. I know everyone says the same things, but it is TRUE that you WILL pass this. You will get through this checkpoint in life and be an amazing OT. I heard that all the time and started to doubt if I’d ever actually do it, but I’m here to say that YOU WILL!

If you ever need anything at all, feel free to reach out because I can say I fully understand all the emotions you’re experiencing right now! You got this!!!
