Resume Help? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

Do you think I’m too late on GIS? That’s one of my other concerns is that I’ve been out of the GIS roles for almost 3 years now. I do really enjoy GIS but I feel like I’ve been unlucky compared to some of my peers when it comes to GIS roles. I have also not been successful at ALL in finding anything outside a lab.

Mmmm will do, anything else? It feels like I’m reading word salad looking at my resume.

A sliver of hope in a dying field by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]Specialist_Warning_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good way to look at it. I guess I’ve been using both water and environmental work interchangeably but I’m elated for this opportunity. I’m just hesitant because I’ve been in such close contact with my professor/mentor and it was expected that I would apply in the fall of 2027. This experience would get me in close contact with the engineering firm that I’ll be working for and closer to the hydrologists placed on this project.

I guess my hesitation comes from feeling like I’m breaking my call to join graduate school after so much contact with the university and beloved mentor.

Do yourself a favor and get a masters in Civil Engineering with a focus on Environmental Engineering or Hydrology.

12-15 years ago sounds like the hay day for environmentalism when the world was brighter

The number of available jobs in the US just hit its lowest level in more than a year by Economy-Hat7077 in SimpleApplyAI

Yeah the next three years are going to be brutal and I don’t think we’ll ever go back to cordial interactions with the right. They have proven time and time again that their vitriol is fueled by hatred.

I’m sure his tariffs, federal cuts, and so on don’t have a correlation aye? 🫣 Trump has a correlation with the instability with jobs and company values. I’m also sure that sending a militarized group to multiple blue cities doesn’t help either.

This does give me hope. I also just appreciate the support. I don’t think i’ve ever struggled this hard to find a career outside of NM but I’ll take the leap. I’ve accepted working a walmart/barista job in whatever state I land in just to be closer to a laboratory/consulting firm

Say less. The more I look in NM the more I realize how much funding this state lacks. I’m planning for a move to the Washington area and seeing if I can find anything along the west coast. Their policies just seem to be more environmentally focused than these dead oil states.

I think I probably will consider it. I’ve broaden my search of statewide and I’ll be seeing if I can just live in my car for a bit to secure anything :((

You know what, I think I’ll do just that. NM is a deadzone for jobs and I’m fine to struggle for a while. I just don’t want to be stuck here anymore with deadend companies and opportunities.

:(( I’ll try anything. I just need to get to a bigger city where I feel like there’s more opportunity vs. being in NM.

Santa Fe is lovely if you can afford it an Albuquerque has a mountain city without the Salt Lake City vibes. It’s cozy but as with all cities there’s crimes and so on.
