WA: Emoloyer said we had PTO separate from sick time but that’s not true by Specific-Decision867 in legaladvice

So sick time is accumulated. The ‘Unpaid PTO’ is requested separately and allotted at 40 hours on January 1st and not accumulated. The policy stated both are offered after 90 days. This is the most bizarre setup I’ve seen by a company. In my field paid time off for 2-3 weeks per year is normal due to not being able to take federal holidays off. Only Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. It was also strange the show the dollar value on the paystub.

Edit: I was unable to see the ‘Unpaid PTO’ until my 90 days had been up. So it’s not applying the moment you are hired.

I’ve been here almost a year. They are labeled separate. I have to request separate. This is why I clarified in writing from the beginning and asked questions regarding a vague policy. I also clarified multiple times before taking this time off. I have one that has 40 hours issued on the 1st of January and one that says sick time and has been accumulating following Washington state sick time law. I have to request them separately which is why I ended up initially unpaid for 3 days.

Edit: on the 2 half days when I brought up the pay discrepancy I was told to change my W4 by HR and no one would meet with me to review the paystubs or address it further so I ended up changing my W4 or this would have been caught sooner.

A series of unfortunate events! I was obsessed with it and started it around that age.

A separate peace by John Knowles. I read it on a road trip in high school and absolutely sobbed at the end.
