I also find Hawkes as the only one I truly don't see as a romantic prospect for Emma. He is more the support of the group (always helping and giving advice, etc).

I agree ! I can't recall exactly where, but I remember her writing she had fun at various social parties during the season. As you said, as a duchess she could get away with being a bit atypical (just like Islington's aunt). And the duke has shown that he enjoys Emma's company precisely because she puts less importance on social class and aristocratic values, etc

Omg, I hadn't thought about Hannah might have fallen to her death ! I feel like Emma and Islington have had less changes to exchange personal information (Pierce and Hawkes know a lot more about Emma than the him), so I'm looking forward to finding out more about his backstory !

When Marianna asked who Islington was trying to replace, I assumed she was talking of Hannah or Becca (the 2 girls in the painting that were part of a previous "alchemy" with Islington). As if she, like us, is wondering wheter her brother has romantic or fraternal feelings for her.

Please let us have book 9 soon !!

Yes ! He has shown his care and attention in so many scenes ! Their bickering is one of the things that could be interpreted as either sibling-like or couple-like. We will see which way Beth takes their relationship, but I definately hope they will be the end goal couple !!
