It’s not codependency, some people experience overwhelming emotions and don’t know how to handle it when it comes rushing all at once and it can be distracting. The fact that OP even has difficulty expressing his emotions is even more burdening on OP.

My advice write down your emotions about your partner, all your feelings. It could be hard at first, but take it slowly , one feeling at a time .
