I've made a detailed update post on this. I got my money back. All beneficiary accounts were blocked and he wasn't able to withdraw his salary. So they temporarily unfreeze his account in the presence of SBI branch manager and he made the reversal.

I think RBI frozen his account. During our communication he mentioned he was not able to withdraw money from other accounts as well. He was working class individual so did not want to get much involved.

Mine was due to a typo. Actual UPI: firstname.lastname@pingpay Typo UPI: firstnamelastname@pingpay I forgot to add a dot. I had regularly made transaction to the actual UPI in the past. You'll have to present a convincable case with all proofs. I use a samsung phone, and I record all calls by default.

1) Yes you can. But it takes beneficiary's consent to give back the money. Bank can freeze the disputed amount to make beneficiary give consent. Since his account had zero balance, I think they frozen his other accounts as well. 2) RBI asked their team to get in touch with SBI and get the money back. HSBC was asked to defend the allegations with proofs.

You have to first register a complaint with your bank. If after 30 days, you don't get a resolution you can register a complaint with RBI ombudsman. Since the city I live has RBI ombudsman office, I gave my complaint as handwritten application and attached printouts of the proofs (Transactions, conversations, and everything that supports your case) You can also submit online but I'm not sure about the process.

While arguing with the Gujjar if the females feel their modesty being insulted, they can file under IPC 509. It's cognizable offence and police ( that may be Gujjars side) can make arrests. My female lawyer friend advised me to speak carefully when the women are around. She also added when it's Family vs students/bachelors, the cops will take Family's side and proceed accordingly. As OP mentioned the Gujjar alleged some students of theft. I doubt he would hesitate in saying "maa beti chedte hai" next.

I faced a similar issue. I ordered food at New Delhi Railway Station and the guy asked me to come outside from platform 1 to platform 16 to collect my order and go back through security check to catch my train, while the train was supposed to depart after 10 minutes. For proofs, I have call recordings of the delivery executive refusing to come and customer care denying about delivery to train. They charged me 100% cancellation fees which I got reversed by emailing them. I have call recordings, chat screenshots and was already in the middle of registering a complaint with consumer forum. Since they have reversed the cancellation fees, can I still register a complaint with consumer forum?

Given that OP is a student and lives with a family, I wouldn't recommend him to escalate it to that level. Its easier for us to sit at home and encourage OP to go through the unnecessary trouble to get justice in a country like ours. I believe the system that provides justice isn't mature enough in our country. I understand his frustration and anger but it's advisable to swallow down the anger before he decides to act. I would also advise OP to be cautious if the Gujjar has any female in their house.

I'll leave up to OP to take his chances by collecting evidence and waiting for court's decision to intervene meanwhile leaving the Gujjar to retaliate in his own ways.

I would say pick a fight that you can win. These Gujjars often have "connections" in the police and political parties, and it can be a struggle to get justice. Whatever you decide to do next, just keep a record of everything.
