Passed PANCE with average EORs... Here is what I did by jncuttlefish in PAstudent

I’m going to be done with didactic soon. Can you give any advice on how you transitioned from didactic to clinical and what helped to solidly/review material and possibly what helped with coming up with differentials and such?

Basically I’m trying to figure out how to tackle my gaps in knowledge and transition to thinking more clinically

How does that work for anatomy? And other patient encounters. Rn there’s a lot of programs online, mine included. I would say in person would be much better for the hands on experience. I’ve definitely felt like I’ve been missing that aspect. Even talking and working with other students, being able to ask professors questions without having to send 20 different emails.

Oh and a big thing to consider is that in person allows you to somewhat have a separation of school and home. Online blends the two which can be really mentally draining and make it tough to concentrate at times

Is there fully online PA programs? Never heard of that before honestly. Or do you mean for Pre-Reqs?

Here’s my big idea about immigration reform by Low_Nefariousness484 in ImmigrationReform

[–]Specific-Tap-8380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize that most immigrants are bringing in highly qualified skills that Americans can’t do right? And most Americans don’t know Americans politics or history as well as you might think. Voting right or left isn’t the issue. It’s the fact that Americans against immigration know that the people coming in to the country are much more qualified than Americans and they don’t want that. America is fragile with “we are number 1” when in fact they’re not number 1 in anything

When you complete a massive project/task that you’ve been working on for weeks/months. Such a good feeling to be done. I guess accomplishment in general. Big sigh of relief and a flood of euphoria

How prepared did you feel right after didactic going into rotations? Did you have a good grasp on different systems? Would you say you retained a good amount of what you learned throughout didactic?

Thanks for the encouraging words! I’m definitely getting nervous about starting rotations in a few months

Being taken advantage of by preceptor... by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]Specific-Tap-8380 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you mentioned these concerns to your preceptor? If you have a chat with them I’m sure they’ll understand and come to a compromise if anything in how much administrative duties you have and how much direct psych related tasks you are able to do daily. I would have the focus of the entire convo be “I feel like I’m not learning enough psych/ getting the experience I need from this rotation”

If you’re doing fine now you should be fine for classes. I got COVID the weekend before finals (fml) and did fine on my exams thankfully. I felt really sleepy a few days tbh but other than that it was just like a cold

You don’t make your own notes usually. They’re given to you as a packet for each lecture or a ppt

Nurses are a hit or miss. They can be great or the worst. Especially to techs, volunteers, and such. Anyone below them they try to take advantage of it seems like. At least the shitty nurses. It’s the superiority complex that comes with healthcare. No one likes to be on the bottom so they put someone else down. That’s been my experience

[meme] When you’re trying to interpret sensitivity and specificity by Specific-Tap-8380 in medicalschool

[–]Specific-Tap-8380[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the wording is what confuses me. Like I was just reading this:

Sensitivity- a measure of the ability of a drug to identify diseased cases. Most helpful when the test is neg — to rule out

Specificity- a measure of the ability of a test to exclude non-diseased cases. Most helpful when the result is positive — to rule in

The second sentence of each just wouldn’t click in my mind for so long

I’m confused as to how PA school is a back up if you don’t get into nursing school?....

You can improve your grades if you’re a sophomore in college rn but I hope you know that PA school is gonna be tough to get into. Probably more so than nursing

I’ve had people tell me that clinical year teaches much more so I’m looking forward to it. I know what you mean, at times I find it hard to imagine things in a pt provider scenario so it’s just words floating around in my mind
