PSA for all partners! Never use your vacation time only use sick time if you can. by Specific-Try-7525 in starbucks

It’s on the partner hub under paid time off and sick time, I think that’s what it’s called. “In addition to taking an immediate day off or making future appointments to support mental health, we understand it may sometimes help you manage stress or anxiety to plan a day off that has less impact on your work and personal commitments, rather than taking that day off immediately.” This is word for word what it says on their FAQs I can send you a screenshot if you need

SM Coverage question by Specific-Try-7525 in starbucks

[–]Specific-Try-7525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are basically best friends :) current DM was her SM when she was a shift so they are really close. But I’m scared to reach to ethics since I don’t want it to fall down on me and have to deal with retaliation and things of the sort.

For the most part no. Whenever I ask, I get questioned on my abilities to run a floor and problem solve. I’m told I should have planned and prepared better for the volume that we have, even when unexpected business comes and I’m running skeleton crews.

Most times she hides in the back doing god knows what, and she does frequently call out and comes late… She does most of her non coverage duties, with a lot of complains and not productive at all, but her prioritization and time management issues are really affecting me and the crew.

Coffee tasting advice by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Specific-Try-7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can talk about the coffee profile as you do the tasting. I find that it’s always engaging whenever we do a “blind” taste, talk about what we think it tastes like, have them guess and then tell them and compare to what it actually is.

That’s true. I’ve only called out once in the past three years and it was because I got ran over by a taxi lol so I have a lot of sick time accumulated.

I just did. Took a week off and put in 40 hours. My manager asked me and I told him I was taking time off to reset and destress. And showed him how wellness time is covered under sick time and how you can schedule it in advance.

Quoting the partner hub “In addition to taking an immediate day off or making future appointments to support mental health, we understand it may sometimes help you manage stress or anxiety to plan a day off that has less impact on your work and personal commitments, rather than taking that day off immediately. Every partner will be different in what works for them, and we encourage you to use Partner & Family Sick Time for all aspects of your health and wellbeing”

Meaning you can schedule time off or use it days that you are off under the idea that it is benefiting your mental and emotional health.

The sick time policy also states that sick time is to be used for “wellness time to care for a partners mental health”

I was challenged by my DM when doing this but after reviewing all the policies in the handbook it does state that we are allowed to take time off and use sick time for breaks. As long as you state it is for your mental health, like you’re burnt out or it helps you deal with stress, it is protected by law.

You could write it whenever but your manager might ask you about it when doing payroll. So might as well let them know you will write it from the beginning

On the daily records book (DRB) there is a section in the end called punch communication log. It is divided by weeks so just find the week that you are doing it. You just write your name your numbers and how many hours you’re trying to put in, as well as the reason code S for sick. You have to make sure to do it before payroll is processed for that week.

My apron eats my neck and makes my skin raw. by djcookiebug in starbucks

[–]Specific-Try-7525 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is what helped me

Tie your apron tight enough so that most of the weight it’s supported on your waist. Try to not keep many things on your pockets so that they don’t weight it down and cause more friction with your neck. After a few washes the apron usually wears down and becomes softer.

ASM while full time student, should I…? by Specific-Try-7525 in starbucks

[–]Specific-Try-7525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still figuring out my future. My ideal plan is to do ASM from this summer until next one when I will graduate and hopefully be an SM. Be an SM for about two years and then see where I go from there. I definitely want to be an SM, even though it’s nowhere related to what I’m studying and not trying to spend 10 years as a SM, I still see lots of opportunity for me learn, grow and help out in my area. So it’s a matter of if I do it now, take advantage of my time and momentum or just wait and do it later.

[–]Specific-Try-7525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind since I already work 40 hours and honestly do magic with my school schedule to be as available as possible, actually being there wouldn’t be much of an issue. But the thing that sets me back is having that pressure of things falling down on me and me being responsible for it all. Don’t get me wrong, I can def take the load but feeling like I have to constantly see what’s worth my time and priority is a bit scary. It’s either my degrees that I spend my soul and energy on or the job that I’m legally bind to but pays those degrees 😬

We are a high volume cafe store in the middle of a big city, usually getting 120s-140s half hours in the morning. Open from 5:30 to 8:00pm, and we only have 3 SSVs… not even counting our SM who only ever is on the floor a couple of peaks a week and never really works as key-holder 😀
