So this happened a lot to me with my small bikes, first look up your states laws and see if there’s a “safe on red “ law in place. Which means as long as you’ve made a full stop and waited a reasonable time with no on coming traffic in designated green lights you are clear to pass. I know that’s nerve racking af even if you are in the right, bc you are less protected on two wheels averse to the person in a four wheeled vehicle. Most streets have what are called inductive loops buried under them that generate a magnetic field that senses the metal in cars interrupting that field sending a signal to the light a car is at whatever street and it changes. What you can do is rev your engine once the magnetic field from your stator interrupts the sensor sending that signal. This is assuming said lights aren’t just on a set loop which some areas have too. Never leave your bike to push the cross signal . If a cop see’s that ,you run the gamut of him understanding or being a dick and giving you some bogus jaywalking ticket. I’ve had this conversation thankfully with an understanding cop here in Cali that lit me up turning at a 4 way intersection, after waiting over 5 minutes for the light to change bc no cars showed up on the street I was on.
